Which is sad. Hopefully the intended additions Rocket has mentioned changes the game. Personally, if it stays as a PVP centric game like it currently is, I won't be buying it. I'm still hopeful it all buffs out. :)

I hope for the same but have my doubts. Most of his posts suggest that DM is what makes the game tick, making DayZ nothing more than a clever way to trick hardcore enthusiasts into playing a messy military Sim for casuals who can't win at anything else. This is a very cynical perspective, but it didn't stop Tom Clancy games from being made. Fingers crossed we'll see a different direction.

Makes me worried about the real apocalypse and how that would turn out if it happens....

95% of the people who post on this forum acting like hardasses would be wormfood within the first couple of days, I'm sure.

This game in no way represents reality or what "people are really like". It represents what people are really like in video games with no rules.

Probably best to stop comparing reality to zombie movies too.

sorry Game theory says even without the Z's theres a good chance of shoot first

"If I go downstairs to investigate a noise at night, with a gun in my hand, and find myself face to face with a burglar who has a gun in his hand, there is a danger of an outcome that neither of us desires(getting shot). Even if he prefers to just leave quietly, and I wish him to, there is danger that he may think I want to shoot, and shoot first. Worse, there is the danger that he may think that I think he means to shoot. Or he may think that I think he thinks I want to shoot. And so on. 'self defense' is ambiguous, when one is trying to preclude bieng shot in self defense"

Thomas Schelling, the stratergy of conflict, Harvard university press 1960

its a common and well known example of how game theory works

home owner - i want this guy to go away, but ive seen him so he knows i can give a description to the police, he might kill me so i cant tell them, or if i let him go he might come back and kill me when i feel safe and dont have the gun in my hand, and if he will break into houses which is a crime then he might kill me because thats a crime too, or he might think i want to shoot him, or that i think he will shoot me so i want to shoot first to stop him

burglar - i wanna get out of here without getting shot, but if i move fast he might think im attacking and shoot, and if i turn my back on him he might just shoot me anyway, or he might just want to shoot me, or he might think i want to shoot him so he might shoot me so i cant

both people have reasons to shoot first to prevent them getting shot,... and the outcomes you see/hear on the morning news while your drinking coffee

in a 1 V's 1 siutation theres a high probability of one party shooting, in a 1 V's n situation this increases as you add in the desire to protect the other members of n, this on top of the feeling of safety provided by numbers, and mob rule aggression

shooting first is a natural response, it happens in real life regularily, dont kid your self it just happens in the game becasue there are no consequences

given that this game has a generally slow pace then suddenly sparks into action fast, while keeping you in a state of tension, your already on edge before you come face to face, if penalties are added they would ahve to be severly debilitating before the shoot first cycle of mentality is broken, and as rocket wants to keep the penalties fair for both parties that wont happen

You won't. Rocket has stated banditry and PvP are here to stay. If you don't like old school griefing and ganking type PvP and want it to be a completely fair and level playing field, play Counterstrike or some shit. If you don't like PvP at all, go play L4D.

Hanging around on these forums moaning about PvP will get you nowhere.

Even if this mod lost half its player base because of a great migration of the anti-PvP moaners, it wouldn't matter. It will be ported to Arma 3 in time regardless and be a great mod, and less popular mods than this have been made standalone in the past (Killing Floor for example).

I came to help you guys. There were around five of you at a helicopter crash, getting overrun. I shot at the zombies and killed them for you. You fucking pieces of crap then turned and shot me after i finally got food, water, weapons and matches for the first time. People like you ruin this game.

Man the fuck up. KoS simple as that.

I like the game, its just ruthless people who kill for no reason or pretend to be nice and kill you just ruin it

Arc, you're going to slowly learn that trusting people in this game is a death sentence. The only time you should ever attempt to establish contact with another survivor, and try and confirm their status, is when YOU have the upper-hand, or have others with you that are watching that person. Once that survivor knows that any kind of threatening response will end his life within seconds, they will usually comply. If you are not in a position to have the upper hand, engage them and kill them. YOU are the only person who matters in this game, as well as the people you may play on teamspeak or other voice comms with. Don't trust anyone, ever.

That's the name of the game. I can't tell you how many people I've scared into submission when I found them, then hid on the other side of the wall and contacted him via comms. When I told him I had a .50 cal on overwatch with him in his scope, he was strangely quick to comply. It was kind of all about how I conveyed my feelings.

PVP will exist, I'm certain of it and am ok with it. It's PVP as the only option that I oppose.

Yeah, probably thanks to these people im gonna just kill everyone i see

....AND NOW YOU KNOW WHY THEY SHOT YOU.

Really though that is why. Same kinda shit that that just happened to you, likely happened to all of them at some point and, they have adopted the same kind of attitude that you have now gained.

The only people I help are obvious noobs on the coast. Not respawn noobs. Actual noobs that think crawling down the middle of a street is a good idea. Lately I've been dropping a hatchet, a can of food, and drink for them and then telling them to keep their distance or else. If they follow me or get too close with that hatchet, they're getting shot in the leg.

We can be helpful and friendly if we're smart about it.

Thanks that one time u saved me
