Safe but benign spawn-island, and choosing where on the coastline you want to go.

I see a lot of posts about a non-pvp areas and trading posts, much like what you see in different MMO's. Obviously this goes against Rockets vision, which has made this mod what it is today.

I have also seen a few posts asking for the possibility of choosing where on the coast you spawn after death, because teaming up with your friend wasn't what you thought it would be when you never even got to meet up during your 4-hour gaming-session.

Shoot me if I'm being stupid here - but I envision something like an island which isn't part of the map, where players go when they die. You have no inventory, no nothing.

On this tiny island there is nothing but a pier with one or more small boats with oars.

All you can do is this:

a) chat to the other islanders in near-chat, or

b) Go down to the pier, and use your action-menu to choose where to row from a list, like "Kamenka, Balota, Cherno, Elektro, Solnichniy". (Preferably fewer options - so the guy you just had a squabble with have less of a chance to spawn back in 100 meters from you, makarov in hand)

After you've chosen, you wake up at the beach as usual, somewhat close to the area of your choosing.

This would make the process of teaming up effortless, but would NOT protect you once you've hit Chernarus.

As I'm writing this; I do see a lot of problems with the idea. Mass spawnings in any given area by a clan, effectively cleaning out the area with makarovs and brute force. Also, it wouldn't help shield us from people doing the Arma-tutorial through the chat instead of through, well, the tutorial. Maybe if islanders chat is completely separate from Chernarus-chat, combined with a tiny obstacle course to get to the pier(just enough to make them at least look at the key bindings, like a fence).

Hm ok maybe this isn't a good idea at all. Right? How could we make this work?

Ah, I'm thinking there will still be a huge number of actual spots to spawn; the menu only lets you choose the area. If you choose solnichniy, you'll probably spawn on the beach somewhere within a km N or S of town. Also, if you do get shot on spawn, you'd just end up back at the pier, so you can choose any other area to spawn in. No one will want to spawn in Kamenka anymore - which suddenly makes it popular again for people that just want to head into the forest without any fuzz.

This a million times over. I honestly saw some group-up ideas that didn't seem all that plausible but this is good; I like this a whole lot. Just a starting island to meet up, change your settings if you need to sounds awesome.

You've addressed the problem of bandits camping spawns too, this is good.

Honestly as it stands this game is far too frustrating to team up with friends, I spent 3 days in a row trying to team up with my friend only for our spawns to be as vague as "Factory" or things that actually are not put on maps of Chernarus.

On the third day we finally met up, we were killed by bandits and zombies we could not see in the pitch black in the days before. Now, we finally meet up and all is well until we were looting a building and then glitched zombies poured in as in they literally were just jumping around and around unable for us to shoot them and my friend dies. That was 10 minutes after we met and the process had to begin again.

Honestly one of the few ideas in suggestions I like; stick with it!

Seems like a solid idea. I can't really fault it. If there's bandits camping a spawn/area, someone will just say so in global and everyone, who isn't a moron, won't spawn there. Bandit camping solved. N1.

But that'll also make it easy for any bandit hunters to find bandits. They can set up camps near spawn points too, to both protect new survivors and kill bandits. Ideally, the system could regulate itself.

The more I think about it, the more I think it would actually regulate itself pretty darn good.
