I love the idea of the direct comms - and I understand that once it's up and running global chat will be scrapped. Maybe I'm wrong on that.

I think that global chat is a good idea. It adds tension because you can communicate with others, but there is always fear of giving away your position to others (bandits).

Scattering ham radios around which enable global chat would be great because it would increase the realism and also the tension. Is it a friendly stranger on the other end wanting to team up, or a trap?
