SwissArmy (DayZ) 5 Posted May 19, 2012 You should be able to cumulate 'loot' of all kinds in a hiding spot (not in a town or building of any kind). When you go offline, the server should save the location and the items, taking them off the map when you leave (making it specific server dependent is too tedious). Whatever server on which you go online should then have them reappear in the location. If you die, all resets to nothing.
clipnotdone 0 Posted May 19, 2012 A tent already fills that role, it is however server specific.I could imagine that loading and removing these save specific loot spots could put a fair amount of strain on servers with players jumping on and off constantly. Most servers have a hard time being stable as it is, and with everybody and their dog server hopping constantly its not going to help. mooncabbage 2 Posted May 19, 2012 I don't mind looting hiding spots, so long as they are server specific and lootable. That way people can take your stuff. Otherwise it's too carebear.
l0ckandl0ad 0 Posted May 19, 2012 Tents are too big and does not match the term "hiding spots".Tho I can't agree with this: taking them off the map when you leaveI really feel the need of SMALL spots where you can hide stuff, maybe dig a hole in the ground, then wrap the stuff into something and bury it so nobody except you can find it. You'd need to remember the exact location tho. That would be more realistic than those tents screaming "come here and take my stuff", if someone stumble across it. anothermartz 0 Posted May 19, 2012 I think a simple enough solution would be to extend the inventory saving in your bag to also include your bag's location if you drop it somewhere.Currently I drop my bag in a secure location before I go into somewhere I'm not sure is safe, if I'm killed I can respawn and find my bag with all my stuff in it. The only problem is that if the server goes down, my bag goes down with it and never comes back. If it saves with your character will fix both our problems.Tents would still have an advantage because you can store a lot more in them and also have a bag on you while you collect more things, although I think there shouldn't be such limiting factors to where you can place tents because I've only ever managed to place them out in the open where people can find them easily which is why I've been dropping my bag because I can actually hide them. SwissArmy (DayZ) 5 Posted May 19, 2012 The 'central' server already keeps a record of your load. Leaving things on the server you just left actually would slow it down much more than 'taking everything with you' when you leave. Yes, I know it's a little 'carebear' as one of you put it, but unless we could all be on the same massive server with no speed issues, I don't see much of a choice.... DroiD (DayZ) 0 Posted May 19, 2012 Tents are ok... but i can't find at least one of them! And considering that after your death you have to look for a new, as you can not pack your previous and it will be gone in 2 days. ((We should have another way to store things, or tents should spawn more often
