How to tell the difference between hive & private servers?

Recommended Posts

So i've spent the last 2 days getting mindlessly addicted to this game, and after finally finding a decent server and learning to use the dayzdb map and learning landmarks i finally got tons of awesome gear by raiding deer stands and small towns. Found an aks-74 cobra in a deer stand, m1911, map, watch, compass, binoculars, tons of food/water, matches, hunting knife anyway you get the picture. When every other time i run for 5-8 hours non-stop and find absolutely nothing having this gear makes me feel like a 12 year old finding my first charizard card.

Anyway, i decided i wanted to change to a server with +8 GMT time since it's 3 in the morning and the game is so buggy that i dont want to watch my m1911 or AKS go poof by trying to mainhand a flashlight (learned that mistake TWICE the hard way by trying to main hand my axe and flashlight). To my suprise when i try to join another server, i have NOTHING. So by doing a few googles i couldn't come up with anything on how the fuck are new players supposed to tell the difference between public and private dayz servers with six launcher? After playing for 10+ hours straight of dying over and over to spawn point camping bandits and zombies that see me across entire fields while prone crawling I REALLY don't want to make the same "non-hive" server mistake again.

The server i was playing on was IL 4361 which says [VETERAN]3DP:ON]CH:ON[GMT-6] dayzmod.com - Hosted by US Border wars.

So how the fuck am i supposed to know that was a private server? Every server says "dayz" as a mission.

Hive = You have your Items on every Hive Server

Privat = You have you items only on this Private Server

But its ok to play on a private server, i very faster with no connection to the host ..

I KNOW what hive and private mean...did you even read my post? HOW are we supposed to tell what servers ARE PRIVATE and what servers ARE PUBLIC on the six launcher list?

Ya normally they will have either private on the name or in the mission type or have non-hive in the name but not all of them do that. I recommend picking a specific server or set of related servers and add their names to your filter options and play on only those.

You can use the in game browser to show the version or join the server and you see your character, if you have to made a new char its a private server. but and public server don't have a number like 4361 ...

IT doesnt fucking matter anyway, tried switching backpacks using the "safe" method http://dayzwiki.com/...?title=Backpack and lost fucking everything. EVERYTHING in this game randomly fucking dissapears no matter what you fucking do and it's dumb as fuck. "oh hey, wanna pick up that item? Better not have it equipped or POOF!" "Dont go fill your water bottle, POOF!"

Thank god i got this awesome new backpack to hold all my stuff right?!

Edit: Just glitched into a wall and died, losing my backpack anyway. W/e, done until at least beta comes out. Not gonna run around swinging my gun axe that hits enemies farther then a shotgun does but bullets don't do shit against the worst hitbox zeds of all time /w randy savage muscles, sonar hearing, & elf like vision. where the only humans in a 75 man server are sitting at an air field or spawning camping to shoot on sight.

I'm guessing you've never tested a game in beta. This one happens to be in alpha. In your case, I'd wait until it is officially released.
