I mean, can I be as much of a dick as possible? Can I use racism, scatological references and maternal insults to get someone to come out and leave themselves exposed?

In other words, in this no-rules environment, what actually isn't ok?

EDIT: What about brutal, awful, nasty direct-channel voice spamming to break down a besieged person?

That's up to individual server admins. I think the Hive only cares if you're hacking, glitching, or exploiting.

Unless explicitly stated otherwise by the server, yes.

1) Disconnecting to avoid death - AVOID being very liberal in its definition. If you DC to avoid someone you hear outside your building, even if they are unaware of you, you are using an exploit. If you DC when you aggro a zombie, you're exploiting. If you DC as you're shot, you're exploiting. Get to a safe location before logging out.

2) Racism / blatant offensiveness isn't okay. While it's not disallowed by in-game rules, you will probably be banned by any server admin with a sense of decency and it's fully within their rights to do so.

Other than that, go ahead. Shoot the unarmed noob on the beach. Blow up the car you found so someone else can't use it. Trap a guy in a cycle of shoot/bloodpack/shoot/bloodpack like you're a sodomist needing a fix. Hide a guy's body so he can't get his gear back.

As stated above, it's up to the server admin.

I've seen some really uptight hosts, and some pretty goddam vulgar hosts.

Not like you can really troll a general chat, since there isn't one.

From what I understand, "Racism" and "malicious speech" are the only two things that warrant banning from a server other than hacking/glitching/whatnot. Other than that, I have to say if it feels wrong, you're just not desensitzed enough.
