Do zombies respawn

So long story short, I'm in a Super Market, and zombies are aggroed. After 15 dead zeds at the door I start to wonder, do zombies respawn while you are near by? Is it possible to actually clear an area? I realize I was probably just aggroing most of the town, but I was using an 1886 inside, the gun is fairly quiet.

They definitely do. Was clearing out tents in Stary when one spawned right in front of me.

But it doesn't always seem to happen, or at least not for some time. Just stay on your guard as always.

Thanks :-/ that kind of sucks though. I eventually stopped shooting and moved to the other part of the building long enough to lose aggro, but I was kind of hoping to clear the town.

Yes. They respawn every 15 minutes or so, which is a reason you don't want to aggro in cities unless you're ready to fight a horde.

Clearing towns is good for end-game playing or when rolling with a large group. Otherwise, I'd advise saving your ammo and not attracting unwanted attention from bandits. It may be tempting to have an epic shootout with the undead, but it usually isn't worth it unless you don't fear death.
