landon0605 1 Posted July 15, 2012 To start off, I have never played anything more graphically intense on computer than Sim City so I really could use some help. I'm completely new to PC gaming, (played a ton on consoles) but do know a thing or two about computers. I decided to go out and purchase a new computer because one, this game really looks like it will be fun and frankly I don't know where else I could play something like this and two, I don't think my 7 year old Pentium 4 with integrated graphics could handle this game. I will post the specs of my new PC below, they should be ample for this game.I would really like some direction in where to start as far as what popular gaming software is a must. Even need help purchasing the right version of ArmA2 or what I need as far as updates for it. I am seeing a lot of people say something about steam, so I went to the website, but have no idea why that would help me.Any help would be much appreciated it. Nitram (DayZ) 7 Posted July 15, 2012 One simpel answer. Search!!!!!!!!!
SpecFour 12 Posted July 15, 2012 To play DayZ you need:- ArmaII (can get latest public patch from their site)- ArmaII:Operation Arrowhead (can get latest public patch from their site)- beta patch for Operation Arrowhead (This is just a patch that isn't made widely known to the public.)- DayZ mod filesArmaII and Operation Arrowhead, slapped together, are called ArmaII: Combined Operations. You can purchase each separately, or as a pack, Combined Ops. $20 to $30 right now, I believe.Beta and the mod files are free.Steam is an online software retailer. You purchase and download through their own software. I believe you MUST have full-time Internet connection, which most people have now, at least in the US. Steam is not required to play this, it is just convenient for a lot of people.I'm runnning on a Intel Q9450 running at 3ghz, GTX 260 with 4meg of memory and have no problems. You should have no problems with that PC's specs.
landon0605 1 Posted July 15, 2012 Alright, I will go ahead and buy Arma2 Combined Ops, I have faith I can figure out how to get the beta and mod. I am seeing a lot of people mention teamspeak. Is this what most people use to talk to each other when they play as a group?
Zexis 127 Posted July 15, 2012 Between the retail and Steam version, I'd definitely go with Steam. It's a great client/software/thingie that is very user friendly for buying PC games and is currently having a HUGE summer sale.Getting DayZ to run properly may take some time. Be sure to check out the thread with indexed helpful links at the top of this board.
AssToast 0 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) I wouldnt recommend to spend that much money to buy a computer with those specs just to play DayZ, an i3 or i5(2nd gen) and 4gb ram with a decent graphics card or a gaming one like Nvidia GTX4xx, 5xx, 6xx(dont know much about ATI cards :( ) to play on high with 1GB memory would be enough,i know some custom pc websites and a forum to help u build if u want to Edited July 15, 2012 by AssToast
landon0605 1 Posted July 15, 2012 Thanks for the suggestions on the PC, I knew it was going to be bit overkill but hopefully it will be good enough to play games for a few years to come if I decide I want to try a newer game out.@zexis, so stream lets me play on their servers or something is that the difference? When you go to download the mod I suggest using the six launcher download FOUND ON THIS SITES MAIN PAGE. It auto updates DayZ, so you just download and play.Team speak is one of many ways people communicate while playing DayZ. My group uses it and it works well, however, I've heard Skype/mumble work just as well. If you want some starting help provided you're over 18 you should learn with us! You don't have to join if you don't want to, but the people in the guild love to get people started with the basics until they feel ready to do off on their own. We also play on a server that's looked over by some very trust worthy people. You can contact the leaders by either searching for members "Zolfo" or "FishMitts" on this site, or directly to our site here

Makes the whole process much easier! For communication I use skype alot with my group cause I find it easiest but if you are playing with larger numbers then Team Speak or Mumble are better. FreeWayy 2 Posted July 15, 2012 wasted some money on that cpu.
FreeWayy 2 Posted July 16, 2012 you could have gotten a 3570 instead for 100 cheaper and spent that on a much better gpu. your current cpu will give you no performance boosts over the 3570 as far as gaming goes and only very slim ones in stuff like rendering etc.
landon0605 1 Posted July 16, 2012 fair enough, I guess I'm not to worried about the GPU. I will upgrade it it later if it needs to be, but like I said, I never play games on the computer.
