Turkishpidewarrior 0 Posted May 19, 2012 I haven't got DayZ yet even though I've spent hours watching streams because I simply will never experience daytime (maybe for 20minutes a week) because of the real time day/night cycles. I play oceanic and I can't switch to Seattle or something like the US players do because my ping will be unplayable. I only have time to play this game from around 9pm onwards. Surely a decent suggestion is that either we have compact day/night cycles... or reverse day/night cycles so daylight is during prime gaming hours. I want to experience the night and I'm sure it's fun but I also want to play during daylight. I haven't seen Rocket say anywhere that he's going to change the status quo (If I'm wrong please link proof to me as I will be excited) and it's probably the reason I'm not playing right now. I don't want to play a game that is 100% night-time.. I'm sure other players agree.I'm making this thread to see if there's any support and I don't see how it would be unrealistic that day/night cycles are reversed to make daylight during how prime gaming hours. I mean; it's an alternate reality.. it doesn't need to be matched with our real life day and night. Not to mention that the character doesn't have to sleep, use the toilet, etc. I think this wouldn't break the realism.. players would still experience night-time.. just not when they get back from work (The only time to play for a lot of people). Alternatively you could have a compacted day/night cycle which is fair to everyone but detracts from realism some more.
mooncabbage 2 Posted May 19, 2012 The Games.On.Net server in adelaide is set to +3GMT, so you can play on that. Plus night isn't that bad, I believe it's only stupidly dark to try to counteract those people that turn their gamma up to 1000000, something I'm sure someone said was going to be addressed in a later patch (since not all cards work with that trick, it creates an unfair disadvantage on some hardware). oktyabr 53 Posted May 19, 2012 What he said. Also as an experienced player I can tell you, while I understand your desire to at least try and play it during "daytime" I think you will quickly find that daytime is at least as dangerous as night time, probably much, much more. mooncabbage 2 Posted May 19, 2012 Well, I wouldn't want to START at night time, but daytime is certainly more bandit friendly. You have to be real careful when and how you move.
Turkishpidewarrior 0 Posted May 19, 2012 I was actually intending to bandit it up with some friends so yeah; daytime is nice for sniping, etc. but I wasn't aware of that Adelaide server.. thanks for alerting me on that. I'll probably get this soon then =).
rossmum 7 Posted May 19, 2012 I prefer moonlit night to day by an order of magnitude. Daytime is terrible as a bandit because you are easy to spot and people are out in force; zombies are also more of a problem because while you can see them from miles off, they can also see you much better.Moonlit nights, on the other hand, will cause deep cast shadows under trees, and even darker contained ones within bus shelters, buildings, etc., making you practically invisible. Meanwhile, idiot survivors are running around with chemlights, flares, flashlights and all manners of other dumb shit.Nearly all of my best work as a bandit has been at night. harryzhe 28 Posted May 19, 2012 speaking of which, i really wish servers would list their local timezone in the server name
Nitrous (DayZ) 0 Posted May 19, 2012 Meanwhile' date=' idiot survivors are running around with chemlights, flares, flashlights and all manners of other dumb shit.[/quote']This genuinely made me lol. mooncabbage 2 Posted May 19, 2012 Most of us need chemlights, flares, and other dumb shit, because even on bright moonlit nights, you can't see a godamn thing, unless you turn your gamma all the way up, like a fucking dick, and that doesn't work for everyone anyway. Infact, the reason nights are so dark is apparently because of assholes turning their gamma up.
proxzor 3 Posted May 19, 2012 There are plenty of servers you can go to that are either daytime or night time with the moon out. If the moon is out you can still see plenty and it is actually quite safer to lurk around places then :)
