bodycount 83 Posted April 23, 2012 The Revolver is baller. The Glock and Beretta....not so much. The .45 revolver packs a whallop dropping zombies with one shot point blank and also at range. It has a ported barrel for improved accuracy. I think survivors should start with the crappier 9mm pistol and have finding a .45 revolver be a reward. I have put plenty of 9mm rounds into zeds only to have them keep coming. It makes it a little too easy too early on starting with the best pistol.

Its rather disappointed considering that it is an advanced weapon.
killarag 1 Posted April 23, 2012 I prefer .45 pistol to any pistol its much better, same reasons as above.
sgtsnug 26 Posted April 23, 2012 I'm at an agreement, 9mm pistols do seem more suited for a basic gun, and in reality are more common place then a .45 revolver. Whilst they are weaker they have larger mags, and add a difficulty curve that makes players NEED to aim and find a stronger weapon, not to mention less a threat to players as a insta 1-shot danger to the nearest player who's taken time to gather items. tpenn 9 Posted April 23, 2012 I agree, starting with a revolver and only ever using that or a Winchester my entire impression of this game was that weapons didn't matter as all infected have always fallen in a single shot. It's nice to know that isn't true and I agree that shouldn't be true from the start.
TheRiddick 0 Posted April 23, 2012 Yes I think the zombie body damage should be changed, too easy to drop them with body shots, this would also fix the RUNNER HORDE zombie issue some are saying where having less runners would make it too easy, but if they were harder to kill then it would mean no more %95 running mobs!Pretty sure you can alter the hitpoint damage zones in ARMA2 for human characters? bodycount 83 Posted April 24, 2012 I want to piggyback off my original topic of pistols to include Shotguns. The Winchester far outperforms the Remington 870. The Remington has the piss poor ball sight as compared to the accurate Winchester dovetail sights. Also the Remington 870 only holds 8 when compared to the Winchesters 15 rounds and they are weapon specific. The Remington 870 does have the advantage of the flashlight (which would go a long ways to helping noobs to see). I would argue that making the Remington 870 more common and making the Winchester more of a rare epic drop would enhance gameplay.
donziboy2 1 Posted April 24, 2012 Well you either go Remington with a light and small mag, or you go Winchester with its nice large mag and no light. Its all in the choices. As for pistols, one thing that annoys me is you cant interchange the 45 revolver and pistol ammo. And a 9mm would teach people control, but if your going to limit there gun, at least give them one with a flash light. phisher34 12 Posted April 24, 2012 Keep the winchester as is in my opinion. It is generally best as a player vs zombie weapon. In PVP, anyone @ 150m+ is going to have a huge advantage using any of the singleshot or semi-automatic rifles. im okay with increasing the capacity of the Remington or allowing the ammo between the 12 gauges to be interchangeable. All for giving players a beretta instead of the .
goatsenator 11 Posted April 24, 2012 I would argue that making the Remington 870 more common and making the Winchester more of a rare epic drop would enhance gameplay.Sorry for being off topic but I don't think it deserves another thread:I totally agree. The Winchester owns and I think the ammo for it is too common. Like you said, the 870 holds less rounds and the ammo isn't as common. They both pack the same punch as far as I know. I don't think the light on the 870 justifies it being a rarer drop seeing as how I usually don't need a flashlight anyway.
Murphy (DayZ) 1 Posted April 24, 2012 Have none of you ever seen "The Walking Dead" I think the revolver is perfect as it made me feel like Rick the moment I logged in.
bodycount 83 Posted April 24, 2012 You should need to earn that hat cowboy! You start out as Carol and work your way up to Dale...then Carl...then Andrea...then Glenn then Daryl...then Rick...and finally when you become tough as nails you become Shane and put a round into your friends leg in order to stop the zeds from chasing you. Guest Suffocation Posted April 24, 2012 C'mon guys, how is daryl lower than rick, daryl is a badass!Issues surround "child" zombies, wonder why you never get to "kill" children in games and they play no part in games like GTA... because its not right and in fact may be illegal, I know at one point it was. Even if its not I dont think it would add THAT much to the game.
oktyabr 53 Posted April 25, 2012 Well, I was kidding a bit although I'm pretty sure I've seen "evil" children used in games before.Back on topic I'd love to have the option of a lighter caliber pistol (with a much larger clip), the revolver, and maybe a smoking DE too! munchy 9 Posted April 25, 2012 This is a very good idea currently the G17 and normal M9 is worthless when you start with a 45 and it just feels wrong to get better gear but to stick with the stock revolver you can switch up to a M1911 but it's just not the same. Deviant (DayZ) 43 Posted April 25, 2012 Hunting weapons should really be found first.I would be okay with starting with a 9mm pistol, and perhaps the most abundant thing around are over/under shotguns and CZ550's.

Deviant (DayZ) 43 Posted April 25, 2012 Double barrel Shotgun would be a good first find weapon in a barn.Indeed.Sadly, the ammo system ingame right now doesn't really make a ton of sense. For example, 1 "magazine" (2 rounds) for a double-barrel shotgun would require 1 inventory space, which you only have enough room for 12 (not including backpack). That being said, you can only carry 24 rounds on you maximum (again, not including backpack), compared to 30 round mags, holding 360 rounds in 12 slots. trauma.au 14 Posted April 25, 2012 Agreed, the 9mm is far too weak. I won't touch anything 9mm in game.
zrix 0 Posted April 25, 2012 I agree - starting with one of the best sidearms feels a bit silly.
sgtsnug 26 Posted April 26, 2012 A 9mm wouldn't be so bad, it's probably quieter then the revolver so less aggro range, pop a couple in a zombies chest I'm sure it'll go down, plus each clip is what 15 rounds? 15 head-shots instead of six.It also means new players are less a threat to those better geared.Even if a 9mm does NOT replace the starter gun, it should be the most common weapon and ammo available should it not? not like the current pistols which are on par in finding difficulty to Alice back packs. Not to mention you can have a laser sight and flash light variation without needing a different clip type. Mugen (DayZ) 72 Posted April 26, 2012 I definitely agree. After playing for a good while i was pumped to find a g17 and then was suddenly disappointed when i need to squeeze off 2-3 rounds to kill a single zombie.
