meestersquishy 3 Posted July 14, 2012 Yes, I know you can get blood back by eating, but on 2 different occasions I have ended up in a situation where I was desperately low on blood. (1000 left due to zombie Mike Tysons)For me to have gotten normal blood levels I would have had to have eaten 50~ cans of foods, or 10~ cooked pieces of meat. That's not exactly practical. Now, being able to give yourself blood is really the hamfisted solution, and doesn't really deal with the problem that is Blood Balance. You can easily lose 6k blood in a matter of seconds if a zombie randomly knocks you out on its first hit, but to get that blood back (on your own I mean, I play on my own and I imagine most players do) would take hours of playtime, never mind having to avoid zombies whilst seeking out food.I feel that the fact that you can easily lose a huge portion of your blood is way out of balance with how difficult it is to get back.I guess possible solutions would be:Increase how much blood you get when you eat foodIntroduce a new item, essentially a blood pen, can be used on self, gives 4K~Straight up give the ability to use blood bags on ourselvesI don't know, any thoughts? Feel free to tell me to get friends or that I'm bad at the game, but I'd rather you contributed.
rjmcfarland 1 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) No to giving yourself a bloodbag. Since only a friend can give you one, it increases your chances of teamwork. The other ideas could be good. Edited July 14, 2012 by rjmcfarland
LockeDown 144 Posted July 14, 2012 I like that you need a partner to give you a blood transfusion; as stated above it nudges you in the direction of teamwork. As for the blood pen idea, I think that cooked meat fills the gap between canned goods and a full blood bag well enough. If you're going to be a loner; you're going to have to work harder to get by. EpsilonNaught 9 Posted July 14, 2012 I think self-administering blood packs would be serverely overpowered in terms of survival. In reality, if you were near death, you can't hold a blood pack above you and let the blood flow in your veins let alone inject a needle precisely where it must go. I agree that there should be an item, like an epi-pen or morphene that can restore a fair amount of blood, say 5000? Also, perhaps different animal meat could yield higher blood restoration... Ganjastar 53 Posted July 14, 2012 self transfusion would make hunting obsolete. why would you waste ammo and risk geting killed while collecting meat, if you can heal any time with bloodbags that are easily atainable for freshly spawned characters.firefights would be ridiculous. wound someone, they hide for one second and get full health with a few mouse clicks.if you are getting hit by zeds and dropping to low blood levels, you deserve it, you made the mistake. be more careful next time, and you won't need self applicable insta health packs. Lukio (DayZ) 24 Posted July 14, 2012 (edited) Nope. On the contrary, I'd actually like to have Morphine only administered by another player as well. Edited July 14, 2012 by Lukio
Miragenz 71 Posted July 14, 2012 I dont find 10 pieces of meat that unpractical, if you find a cow you have like 8 ? other animals give you 5 or 6 and they're pretty easy to find.
adamtheheretic 106 Posted July 14, 2012 You shouldn't be able to get blood back from food, also pointless idea because your premise is that you shouldn't lose that much blood in one zombie encounter, I say you should die if a zombie has hit you and knocked you out. takfar@gmail.com 24 Posted July 15, 2012 Yea... I'd rather have blood restoration be slower, rather than faster. If you have a full stomach, it should slowly regenerate automatically. None of this magic barbeque we have right now; if you're down to 6k blood, you have serious wounds that have to close up and heal, and your body has to rest a while to replenish all that lost blood. Blood packs shouldn't even restore you up to 12k, imo. Maybe only up to 9k, and from them on you have to heal naturally.

Although with the second point, I imagine there are plenty of players that do this with their groups all the time, and blood bags are fairly hard to come by, (AFAIK) they only spawn in hospitals and helicopter crash sites, and these are pretty much the riskiest places to go on your own.
