Character gone after 1.7.2.3 update

Hi, i've been playing dayz for a couple of weeks now and i'll get straight to the point.

Me (lazybear) and a friend (Rudi) just updated our game and we've tried at least 20 different servers, they all spawn us on the coast with starting gear. We were never killed, We disconnected two days ago safely in a forest, with snipers, ghuille suit (not worn, in inventory) and an alice pack stock full of gear.

I assumed this was just a hive connection issue between servers, but i've seen little to no mention of it on reddit or on the dayz forums. Between the last eight hours we continue to spawn on the coast. What i shrugged off as a temporary error now becomes a realization that our characters might be forever lost.

Again, we never died, we never got killed during loading.

Is there anything to do at this point?

Edit: SOLVED. Had to kill the new character, and i respawned with my old one with all the gear.

Yes, we both clicked "abort" and then disconnected fully.

I had the same problem this morning. Here comes what worked for me:

Go to the next town and let the zombies kill you. Sounds stupid, but it gave me all my stuff back :)

would letting zombies kill you really work over re spawning? because re spawning didn't work and I miss my guns :(

I just chose respawn, and my old character was back with his lovely silenced m4. Good times, good times.

I also had this issue but respawn fixed it for me. This thread should be stickied.

Ditto, Tonight I logged off finally with some semi decent gear and a few kills under my belt...

On the coast with nothing.

Let the zombies kill me, Hop servers and bingo all my stuff back.

I wonder what causes it? Maybe corrupt character data?

I heard rocket mention that they included over 30k of old characters into the hive very recently, so it could be possible that we all got some old characters we once had that failed to load at some point. (This is purely speculative)
