CANT PLAY SIX LAUNCHER ERROR

Recommended Posts

Hi, before 3 recent patches for Day Z I have been playing just fine without to many issues. But for some time now I've been getting an error with the six launcher each time I launch it. It comes up with a window and says

"Unhandled exception during Sync" along with a bunch of text below it.

I tried manually installing the updates and all, but whenever I get on to play, all the servers have a red X before the names of the servers. So I cant play on those.

I have tried to uninstall and re-install both the six launcher/updater. But the same exact error pops up.

If I hit the "okay" button after the error on the six launcher and let it load, the servers pop up but I don't have the option to

play them.

Anyways, if someone has any idea or links I should check out that may fix the problem. Please do use this thread.

Thanks

Are you able to launch the game normally through Steam or with the beta patch executable? If so, try uninstalling/reinstalling Six Updater, make sure you scan your registry and remove any residual reg keys and reboot your machine before reinstalling. Let me know if that solves your problem.

When I manually install the updates I run the game through steam using combines ops. Also, I have uninstalled the six launcher and the updater, restarted my whole desktop and then installed it, but the error message continued.

Do you have any ideas on what I should use for a screenshot? Like websites?

http://dayzmod.com/f...+steam +overlay

^For getting the beta patch to launch through Steam. This is the method I have used, although the original post is no longer in the forums. I found this post that had the process quoted. Hope that helps in the mean time until we figure out what you did to break Six Updater ;)

When you install the beta patches you have to start the game using the beta shortcut/exe instead of the normal game exe, so it doesn't trigger the Steam overlay or keep track of your play time. You can add the shortcut to your Steam library as a non-Steam game to get the overlay back but Steam still won't keep track of your play time. So here is how you fix that.

After you install the most recent beta patch you get a "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" shortcut in the main Arma 2 OA folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead" which has all the info we need when you check its launch options in Properties. Currently it points to a beta exe at "\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" with the launch parameters of "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion"

So do the following:

  • Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\
  • Rename ArmA2OA.exe or move it to a backup folder.
  • Locate the beta ArmA2OA.exe in the \Expansion\beta folder, copy and paste it to the main older where the original exe was.
  • Open your Steam library, right click on ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead, and click Properties.
  • Click Launch Options and add "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion" without the quotes
  • Add any additional launch options you want such as -nosplash, -world=empty, -mod=@dayz
  • Launch ARMA 2: OA as normal from Steam and enjoy.

Any time you install a new updated beta just update the ArmA2OA.exe and check the beta shortcut to see if there are any additional launch options needed.

Enjoy!

If you have Windows 7, use the 'Snipping Tool' to 'snip' the area of the screen that error is on. Otherwise use your PrtScn (Print Screen) key and paste it into MS Paint. I would also suggest grabbing GIMP from http://www.gimp.org, it's a very powerful open source paint program, you can use it to crop your screen shots so your not pasting your whole desktop.

Add me on Steam, grab TeamSpeak3, and I'll see what I can do to walk you through a few things later tonight when I get home from work.

dont bother with gimp for such simple things, just go and download paint.net

its basically what mspaint should of been but microsoft were too lazy to do

And this is what I get.

It looks like one of the config files used by Six Launcher is corrupted. When you uninstall it, make sure you delete the old directory completely.

Also check C:\Users\%User Name%\AppData\Roaming and delete any Six Updater related folders, like six-updater & six-zsync.

Once you have ALL the old files and folders associated with Six Updater removed and you've rebooted, download a fresh version of the Six installer and try again. Let me know if that helps.

-Edit: I forgot to mention that you will need to Show Hidden Files & Folders to navigate to your Windows user AppData folder.
