can someone tell me where i went wrong

what happened:

i logged off on a decently geared and alive character and then the next time i logged back in i was forced to create a new character, i tried to press escape to try and disconnect from the server but it took me straight to spawning as a male character and whenever i try new servers i am that same new character.

Short rundown of gameplay before i lost my character:

So i started a new character, spawned near some deer stands so i went and looted them (no guns), then traveled to another set of deer stands and i got an aks-74 kobra and plenty of ammo, spot a barn and go loot that, then i log off in the barn.

the next day i start playing again on a new server and log back in to find myself in the barn. from there i loot the same deer stands as yesterday and get a pistol and some ammo, then i move from town to town looking for food and drink eventually ending up at the supermarket in a town that is inland, at this point i have pretty decent gear (guns, ammo, watch, map, 3 cans of food, 3 cokes, alice pack). i log off in the supermarket, because i thought that i would be there when i log back in. but the next time i played i went straight to the character create screen where i am supposed to choose male or female.

Question:

so i don't know what happened, does my body linger for a bit after i log off and someone could kill me during this, i am pretty sure no one was around because i was in the supermarket for a good 10 minutes, or was it simply a bug. both servers must have been connected to the hive thing because when i logged off in the barn i was still in the barn when i logged in to the new server the next day.

Did you join a server that connects to an alternative master server, i.e. doesn't have your character saved? Did you try different servers? What servers did this happen on?

it was either an AUSARMA server or ANZ Games.on.net server . i always play on a server hosted by these two because they have been the most reliable. but i am unsure of specific server names. i possibly connected to a server that connects to an alternative master server but then i am unsure why when i connect to other servers (i have tried atleast 5) i always get the same character that i moved a few steps from the spawn.
