I keep seeing in people's videos that they have a global chat thing, I can only seem to talk to people that are close to me.

How do I get this?

Some servers don't allow it because its dumb. You can cycle through your chat group with "<" or ">" than use "?" to start typing. You don;t need to hold shift just hit the keys "< , . >".

Side chat is server specific. Direct Communications is really the only way to communicate with people. It's best used with a mic and by selecting Direct Comms and using the "CAPS" key you can speak to players in your vicinity.
