need help optimising :(

Recommended Posts

Hi im new to DayZ ive played a few hours but today i log in and have a very low fps in elecktro, was fine yesterday with around 20-30fps now its around 10-15fps my pc specs are

AMD Phenom II x6 1100T Black Edition @3.50Ghz

6Gb DDR3 ram

1Tb HD

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Default settings are just horrible i cant play on anything in all fairness i know this game is poorly optimised but i watch plenty of videos on youtube with people with worse off rigs that seem to be able to play fine soo i was just wondering what is going wrong, i use the startup parameters of -cpucount=6 -exthreads=7 through six launcher and am completely stumped if anyone can offer any ideas or has a similar rig?

Your rig is better than mine and I don't have these issues. Also the game isn't so badly optimised nowadays. I know that's not really helpfull but it might help you narrow it down a bit.

Just a thought, do you use Catalyst Control Centre for your graphics card? If so, move the 3d Games setting to performance and/or "use application settings". Also turn "Open GL- triple buffering" on. Also, update your drivers. Good luck.

P.s - I just thought, what setting are you using in game under Video options, some of these can have a massive effect on performance.

Cick Options/Video Options/advanced settings.

The options that have a big performance hit can be:

Visibility: This affects how far the game will render the background, lower values equal better performance.

Post process effects: Having this set above normal can really slow some rigs down.

Antialiasing: Some set-ups hate this.

Try messing about with the other options untill you get decent frame rate. Like I say, my rig isn't as good as yours and I've got most settings pretty high so maybe the problem lies elsewhere.

This is what im running atm, currently downloading the newest driver because im not sure when the last time i updated was lol but ill keep you posted, just a tad confused i should be able to run this fine on most settings obviously not highest but anything around 40-60 constant fps would be great, im usually good at getting games to run well on my pc but Arma 2 has always gave me problems :/

Of the in-game settings, the three that will likely have the biggest performance impacts are Antistropic Filtering, Anti-Aliasing, and Resolution.

I play using a Resolution of 1920x1080 (Interface and 3D) and most of the texture and feature related settings on Normal. I was getting 20-30 fps and a great deal of stutter until I turned Anisotropic Filtering and Anti-Aliasing off. Now I'm getting around 50-60 fps with the same settings, and on this particular game it really doesn't seem to make that big of a difference visually, at least not enough of one to justify the poor performance.

One thing that helped me on another game that may help some people on this game (at least those with Nvidia cards) as well is to make sure that your video card's graphic settings have Anti-Aliasing set to "Application Controlled". Otherwise your video card my override your in-game settings, and in some older games that can cause some serious performance issues.

My specs:

Intel Core i5 2500k

nVidia GeForce GTX 550ti

8gb DDR3 Memory

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

For the settings that were shown in the above post, i'd try:

Change 3D Resolution to Monitor's Native Resolution

Change Anisotropic Filtering to Disabled

Change Shadow Detail to Low or Disabled

Change HDR Quality to Low

If you're using an Nvidia card set Anti-Aliasing to "Application Controlled".

Hopefully that'll make things look a little better and squeeze out some more FPS for you.

Here is a link straight from the DayZ Wiki

I did not personally follow much of it, but I did look it over for suggestions.

My graphics are quite low. Everything is set to normal with a slightly high vision distance or w/e.

No AA or anything.

ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT.

Make sure your video memory is set to DEFAULT. Otherwise it is limited.

Default uses all of your VRAM on your card. The other options limit it.

Example:

I have 1GB dedicated memory on my video card. The HIGH setting stops the usage at 512MB, leaving a whole 512 left unused.

Setting it to default uses all of the memory.

another important tip is that hyper-threading seems to mess the game up every now and then. A good rule to follow is only using your main cores. using the -cpucount=x (x = # number of cores) as a start-up parameter.

-You must know a bit about your CPU before you do this-

Example:

I have an older i7. It is a quad core processor that is hyper-threaded. Which means each core has a logical core. Meaning 8 cores in all, so 4 physical cores, 8 logical. This simply means more processing power on one chip.

However, Arma is weird and hates hyper-threading, from what I hear. So for me, setting a start-up parameter of -cpucount=4 only uses the four main cores. Of course, if I wanted to, I could use as many as I want.

Just for good measure, I'll also link a good video with great description.
