thelonewarrior 886 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) So yeah, ive been watching videos of this for a while and im thinking of getting arma 2 and this mod.Few questions though. How exactly do the mechanics work?If I leave a game, are my items etc saved and I can re enter at the location I left?Do vechiles stay where they were? Dissapear after ive left?Do I need to start a new game everytime I leave, or is it saved? When I log off, am I able to be hurt/ starve to death while offline? If not, how does the starting items system work? DO you have to unlock stuff etc? Thanks Edited July 13, 2012 by thelonewarrior
Booker (DayZ) 47 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) If you leave the game your items are saved, and you do re-enter in the location you logged off.Vehicles will stay on the server they were found on, there is no way to transfer them across servers. The character you play will always be saved unless you die, if you die you must start again. When you log off your character will not deteriorate in any way, shape or form. You will be as hungry/full as when you left and you health will be the same. There is nothing you need to unlock in this game, everything is found through searching different loot locations which are scattered across the map and categorised into different loot types, generally this means you will find weapons/ammo in military places, clothes etc in residential and car parts in industrial for example. The loot is randomly generated and it's up to luck to determine what you find.A word of advice would be, to never get attached to you gear but to make the most of that gear while you have it, because you will die during this game, you'll die a lot to countless different reasons. Also, this game is in it's alpha state, this means there will be bugs and you need to be aware that they will happen to you.Other than that, this game evokes a lot of emotion and really does immerse you into it instantly. You won't regret buying the game.HAVE FUN!EDIT; p.s never tell anybody you have beans. Edited July 13, 2012 by Booker
Dancingg 27 Posted July 13, 2012 The Arma 2 mechanics as a FPS is nothing like any other FPS. Be prepared for a steep learning curve. It's worth it though! Lots of videos explaining how to do things so just do some searching.
Lukio (DayZ) 24 Posted July 13, 2012 To anyone thinking about buying ARMA 2 just for DayZ, I'd really really warmly recommend giving ARMA 2 Free a look first. Just to get used to the different playstyle, understand how this game is different from generic shooters and also to get comfortable with the controls and the glitches that ARMA 2 inherently has. If you feel comfortable and understand how things work in ARMA 2, then give it a go. But please do not just blindly buy ARMA 2 CO just for this mod. The mod is heavily in alpha stage testing and will disappoint people who think they are getting anything close to AA gameplay.Don't get me wrong, the mod and the experiences made in this mod are pretty fascinating and really cool, fun and completely different from many other games. Just don't go out and buy a game just for one mod without informing yourself and getting familiar with the base game this mod is running on.
Michaelvoodoo25 3120 Posted July 13, 2012 Have a good rig setup to run it, you wont regret it, It is one of the best games / mods I have ever played.I think you can still get arma 2 free, you could try that for controls system wise?
grrinc 7 Posted July 13, 2012 Also, dont get to owrapped up in FPS either. This game seems to defy the usual connections between FPS as a numercical value, and what you actually see on screen with your own eyes. I have a silky smooth experience and yet Fraps reports 14 to 25 fps.
thelonewarrior 886 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) Ok thanks guys, yeah Im used to playing games with a steep learning curve.I like what I see even in its basic form, ill probably give the demo a try and see what thats like. One other thing, I read about a game on this forum while looking through posts where someone mentioned they saw someone with 'starting packs' like they just joined the game, is there any character customisation in game? like other clothes or backpacks? It doesnt matter if there isnt, but it would be niceI also have a pretty good rig setup, All of my games are quite high end and run fine Edited July 13, 2012 by thelonewarrior

thelonewarrior 886 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) Ok thanks, I also forget to ask, it also needs the DLC arrowhead doesnt it? Edited July 13, 2012 by thelonewarrior
euryale 72 Posted July 13, 2012 you'll need Arma II and Operation Arrowhead too.I suggest that you watch a few beginning videos before trying this game. You'll learn a trick or two that won't make you post in the suggestion forum to cry about how hard this game is (it isn't... As long as you use your brain!) Mallory (DayZ) 2 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) yes, you need any combination of the base arma 2 and operation arrowhead.(arma 2 free + oa, arma 2 + oa, arma 2: co or any of the even bigger bundles should work)One of the keys to having a less frustrating time in dayz is mastering the incredibly dodgy inventory system. you should definately watch a youtube guide on that.
