Keirin 0 Posted July 13, 2012 It seems to be simply impossible to even find a hatchet for me. Ive been trying this game for a good 2 hours now, and I still havent found anything to defend myself. I spawned on a beach, with hordes of Zombies so nearby that I almost aggro'd them upon spawning. Fortunately, I didnt, but Im still at the same point in the game as when I started. Every house I see has atleast 1 zombie nearby, and the houses that dont, cant be entered. Even the deer stands I see here and there always have a couple of zombies near them. So I have been playing for 2 hours, Ive only found a few pistol bullets, and there seems to be no way for me to find a weapon.
ultimateburger 0 Posted July 13, 2012 Errr...zombies spawn near loot locations, so you have to sneak by them to find stuff. Crawling if pretty much the only way to sneak around zombies. You're right, you don't get this game.
azunai 32 Posted July 13, 2012 you know zombies guard loot spots ?which means , sneaking by to loot if you dont have a weaponto get an overall impression where you are and what house has loot or not check this maphttp://dayzdb.com/map
chisel 50 Posted July 13, 2012 It's true; you don't get this game.If you expected instant gratification, dayz is not going to give it to you. This game is a bit deeper and takes time, lots of time. It's about sneaking and timing. Watch the zeds. You can enter buildings surrounded by zeds without ever firing a shot. Patience and practice.I joke with the new guys in our group that it's the game frogger but with zombies instead of cars. Hop forward, left, left, oh shit, now back, now right, now forward. Find the clear path. It's there right in front of you, but you have to find it.
H@buster 1 Posted July 13, 2012 Jeez, just start sprinting, go in, take loot, go out and lose the zombies eventually. That's the quickest way to get some gear and it's not even that hard.
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted July 13, 2012 So I have been playing for 2 hours, Ive only found a few pistol bullets, and there seems to be no way for me to find a weapon. Two hours?Trying really hard not to make some cliche statement here about your "generation" because I'm sure not everyone your age (whatever that is) is quite so impatient. But two bloody hours, dude? And you're already on the forums?Get back out there, holy shit. The only thing you need to worry about right now is how not to make zombies angry. Practice that, worry about a weapon later. If you can figure out zombie aggro, the weapon part will be easy.
Brew78 27 Posted July 13, 2012 Look for warehouses and barns. You'll likely find a hatchet in one of them. The very small gray structures with two doors found in towns and industrial areas (sheds, sort of) often have hatchets too.If you want to find a pistol, head to an apartment building in a city or a grocery store (which may be suicidal, as you'll likely come across other players, and cities are generally KOS).Hopping from tree stand to tree stand will eventually get you a long gun, either a shotgun or good quality rifle.Barns often have long guns too, usually a Lee Enfield (extremely powerful, but low rate of fire and VERY loud - it'll aggro every zombie nearby) or Winchester (good stuff). It sucks at the start, but just treat it like you're trying for "Silent Assassin" in Hitman. jambird 0 Posted July 13, 2012 Okay, I dont think you know that if you are lying down and crawling past the zeds they have to be about 4 meters away to spot you, which makes it very hard for zeds to spot you near deer stands, even though you can just wait for them to wander of for a bit and then just stroll in any building. :)
Keirin 0 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) Okay, I dont think you know that if you are lying down and crawling past the zeds they have to be about 4 meters away to spot you, which makes it very hard for zeds to spot you near deer stands, even though you can just wait for them to wander of for a bit and then just stroll in any building. :)Ah , guess I have to try that. Yeah mods like this usually have been pumped a lot of time into, but often has these little things that dont make sense but can be exploited, like being near invisible if youre crawling. Thank you for this useful tip, I will try it next time and hope I dont get spotted ^^@Zeds I could start making the same prejudice about you for being a typical forum troll....geez, Im new to the game, Im asking for help, and the first thing you can come up with is trying to make a statement involving my supposedly young age (which is not the case) and my impatience (which also isnt the case) Edited July 13, 2012 by Keirin
juankiepankie@gmail.com 0 Posted July 13, 2012 I'm in a similar position man- but I've had fun exploring.Survived about 3 hours so far and managed to lose zombies either by running into buildings and up stairs or running uphill into the forest.Though I've been shot at several times it's only grazed me.Wish I could find people in an easier manner but I've been looking for low populated servers to get the hang of this while more of my friends buy Arma II etc.:)
Dancingg 27 Posted July 13, 2012 You can sneak around the zombies at deer stands almost every time. More times than not I find a weapon in there. Also remember, the less people there are the less loot will be there.
Dingus (DayZ) 429 Posted July 13, 2012 As others have said, any where you find loot, you will also find zombies. Their spawns are tied together in that way. The game is about stealth mainly. Use your different movement posture options to quietly navigate around or through them. There are weapons out there, a lot of weapons, but you have to put in some work to get them. Also, as a new player, you can afford some rickier behavior, since you don't lose much if you die. Don't be too scared early. Zombies also have line of sight, so it is possible to lose them in bigger buildings.
xloppielx 2 Posted July 13, 2012 Unfortunately this game is not for the people that want to jump into a game to have fun right away and requires hours upon hours of exploring to get the hang of it. As for the zombies coming after you, just recently they have changed them to have the crazy ability to detect you from a really far distance so hopefully that gets changed back so if you even see a zombie try and not go in that direction. To help navigate around check out http://dayzmap.info/ and look for some land marks to find your location. For the general gamer's trying to jump in now that don't have 8 hours a day to play a video game you are pretty much Shit out of luck and should move on to another game.
