How do I use melee?

I just started playing and I found a crowbar that did me no use when a zombie attacked me because I couldn't hit him.

You have to reload it before use (press "R").

Its kinda funny, however its due to limitation of core Arma2 that doesnt have melee mechanism (as its actually useless in modern military sim). Therefore melee weapons act like very short range guns, and have to be reloaded :)

Ah, I understand.

And once it's reloading it's just left mouse click to use it just like a gun, correct?
