t0et0e 0 Posted July 13, 2012 With all these private database servers popping up, does blacklisting do anything or does that only stop them being on the hive?I was talking to one server admin who said the only reason he made the private one was because of the wait for a license, i think he intends to join the proper hive when he is finally accepted, but i wonder if he gets blacklisted is he screwing up his chance of ever getting online properly? Scene 36 Posted July 13, 2012 Yea blacklisting only block the server from gaining access to the hive. All the private servers don't carry over to other servers like official servers do.So any progress made on them will not be saved for any other server. Hakultair 114 Posted July 13, 2012 As you stated it prevents the server from being allowed to connect to the public HIVE. There are servers that run private HIVE's, I'm however not sure if that'll get you blacklisted, but it wouldn't suprise me. I also doubt they're taking appeals on blacklisted servers, they likely have more important things to waste their time on. ;P
t0et0e 0 Posted July 18, 2012 but say someone runs one of those private db's gets blacklisted, does that mean they cannot play offical servers anymore?
jskibo 143 Posted July 18, 2012 Only a server gets "Blacklisted" so it can't access the hive. Has no impact on the players on it.If you are playing on your private hive server or someone else's, the only thing is your gear doesn't carry over to "Whitelisted" servers. No impact to your "Toon" or its ability to play anywhere
Adron 42 Posted July 18, 2012 no blacklisting only affects the server, not the players.if you play on a private hive, you have different gear than if you play on a public hive server
t0et0e 0 Posted July 18, 2012 and if you are the host? ie using private database for training, filming etc and public hosts for actual playing
jskibo 143 Posted July 18, 2012 Nothing as you have no "Instance ID" to blacklist when running a private hive. There is Zero risk
t0et0e 0 Posted July 18, 2012 ahhh ok i see how it works thank you- btw as hosts of official servers are you not at all worried about the total lost of control being proposed, i mean from what i read its really not looking good for hosts! imo they really want to be carefull as only 10% of host actually host for the benefit of the community the rest all believe it has its advantages for themselves
