CerebralZombie (DayZ) 151 Posted July 13, 2012 So I had bought the Arrowhead Expansion and installed the mod/patch ect, and it was my first time playing Arma at all so I decided to jump right in! I started on the shore line in the water and started my adventure, without even looking at the controls. To my left was a small town that I went near very slowly and a few zombies had seen me so I ran into the water to swim away. (Later my brother told me if you swim you usually lose you backpack, which I had...) Anyways I did a quick run through the town to find nothing except an aggro on my tail. Iran n' ran through the forest and after 15-20min or so I finally out run/lost him. 2 hours in I'd only come across a gas can n' windshield, so I ended up signing off and taking a break for the night. (Slept) Today I joined up again and went at it! My brother said I should really have looked at an online DayZ map so I wouldn't get lost and so I could find the bigger towns to get supplies such as blood packs, food, drinks, ect... Well I ended up finding some nice farm land and found a gun n' an axe which later I traded for a rifle and 20+ rounds, also a can of food and coke. So I've been playing around 4+ hours and have not died once. I do have to say I have watched a few videos including "The Days Ahead" series, and I read one forum post in this section which gave a few tips also. So for all you noobs that have or are about to give up, don't! As much as I'd love to have a group to run with I can't complain. If anyone live in the West of America/Canada and wouldn't mind a good member to add to their group just message me! I have Vent, Skype, and Mumble. Thanks for your time,CZ~
CerebralZombie (DayZ) 151 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) Sorry about breaking the rule of finding members to group up with. This post wasn't intended for that purpose, but just a little add on. Edited July 13, 2012 by CerebralZombie
species5021 28 Posted July 13, 2012 Off to a great start, well done mate. Glad atleast some people are learning from the many DayZ videos out there.Lots of groups operating out there, good luck to you!
disorder 344 Posted July 13, 2012 I also think you should play some of the military content (campaigns or scenarios) as it helps with tactics and discipline. I notice a lot of people just get the game and jump right into DayZ, which might make you miss something important you could use later.

CerebralZombie (DayZ) 151 Posted July 14, 2012 Thanks for the comments, and I've played more today so here's the update! I still have no backpack, but I've gathered enough supplies here n' there and have used it too. I just found a tent with food, a hand gun, blood pack, and drinks. Oh and a watch + map! I ran into two other players that were very helpful. I gave him some ammo for his Ak and he gave me a blood transfusion. I may be a little lost but my brother said with the watch and the lighting you see on the watch works as a compass itself. I am heading now to Chernogorsk to give it a shot and meet some players. Mainly for proper supplies since I don't think I can trust many people... especially ones on higher ground. (i.e. Roof tops n' buildings. =P) I will also try some campaigns/scenarios for practice and learning as suggested, and since I've also seen a couple videos of scenarios that look very fun! I will continue my journey tomorrow, and best of luck to myself as I still continue to fight on! If I'm going to die, Chernogorsk is where I'll do it! Haha, peace!
