Leodore 0 Posted July 13, 2012 So hello community, im new here and was wondering:I started to play DayZ today, 1st time i had to choose male or female..went for male...ran alittlebit here ad there but didnt pick up somehting or whatever, i quitted the game, restarted after a while and just went for another server and started playing.Heres my question..how do i save my character? Cause when i started to play again i had to choose again my gender...shouldnt the game save my char automatically? Dont want to start looting etc, quit the game and then realize i have to start from scratch. So yeah, how does your char save, and will my character be the same one trough all servers untill i die and start from scratch? If so why did i have to choose my sex again everytime i started to play? Thanks for the replies, much appreciated
Caviano 287 Posted July 13, 2012 When you leave a game your character is saved automatically. The game is progressive across all servers connected to the Hive. You must have been killed during login or logout last time you logged in or out. Or perhaps you clicked respawn, or restart.

GeeksterDayZ 55 Posted July 13, 2012 When you log out, make sure you do it by pressing escape to bring up the menu, then go to "Abort" at the bottom, then disconnect. This will make sure your character is saved.Try and only play on up-to-date servers too, the out-of-date ones might not receive your latest character info and just spawn you a new one! Gamewiz 12 Posted July 13, 2012 There is also a bad bug going around where your progress is NOT saved. This happened to me twice yesterday. All my progress from the previous night wasn't saved when I logged in last night, and after played for a few hours last night and got all the good starting gear, I lost it when I logged out and re-logged that same night. So don't get attached to any of your gear right now...
Amazing 3 Posted July 13, 2012 Yeah, it seems that I just lost my gear after logging out for a quick break to go pee...
ssjenforcer 7 Posted July 13, 2012 if i save my character will i respawn at the same location next time i enter the game? i just dont wanna save just outside a big town then realize i wont spawn back outside it later
Dingus (DayZ) 429 Posted July 13, 2012 if i save my character will i respawn at the same location next time i enter the game? i just dont wanna save just outside a big town then realize i wont spawn back outside it laterThe hive saves your character's location and status every 60 seconds about. By using abort, you can usually get another save as you log out, but I've not had this happen several times anyway. This character information is ready for you whenever you log into any official server, and your character should be recovered. To log out, I usually wait in place for about 60 seconds to ensure my status is saved. For example, if you are hungry, eat something, then log out immediately, you may log back in hungry still, but missing the food. jetao2008@hotmail.com 175 Posted July 13, 2012 (edited) If you were playing on a Hive server (official) your character will be saved across all the other Hive servers.Maybe you entered a non-Hive server (private) after that, which means you character is not saved there. Playing on a non-Hive server makes your character to get saved ONLY in that server, and only there.Maybe that's what happened, maybe. Lapua Lupo 0 Posted July 13, 2012 Free protip that's relevant to this discussion:Make sure that when you log out you do it somewhere safe. Preferably hiding somewhere out of reach of where zombies typically spawn (like in a forest or something). When you load the game your character will appear before you can actually see or do anything, thus making you vulnerable to zombies and players that happen to be around you.
