How do I type to players?

I have gotten up to a few players and I can't seem to find out how to type to them as I want to say "Friendly".

Any help is appreciated.

select direct channel with "," or "." and then press "/" to open chat

text range for direct channel is 40m.. you can also use voice chat (default push-to-talk key is caps-lock) once you have the right channel selected.. voice range is 80m

Open the controls tab and learn.

As above, experimenting is the best way to learn, but you can also check the controls, takes a lot less time than waiting for a reply, but people around the forum seem to be helpful enough with only the occasional troll thrown in.
