When running from steam, button smashing occurs

Yo. I never used to run the game from steam, I just entered a server from sixlauncher or something similar. But I kept dying because I had to alt-tab to view my steam chat.

But every since I've been using steam (like an hour), whenever I use the chat, random letters appear in between what I'm trying to type, also in all of the menus it seems like the arrow key is just being held down, as it goes through the options by itself, highlighting them really fast one by one.

Any idea what this is?

Using steam overlay and the beta patches causes some weird stuff to happen.

By steam overlay you mean accessing it through Sixlauncher? Even if I go to steam itself and open CO, it still happens...

just tap the TAB key when you get back into the game, it gets stuck when you use steam overlay which causes auto-complete in chat and this - "it seems like the arrow key is just being held down, as it goes through the options by itself, highlighting them really fast one by one." - in menus
