Animal spawn

Does anybody here know how animals spawn?

Do specific animals spawn in specific areas, such as a cow near a farm or a boar in the forest?

Does a players location affect how and when they spawn, as with zombies?

Animals spawn in completely random positions, mostly in open fields is where you will spot them. Animals are uncommon, but looking around in a field you should find at least one or two animals.
