NY | TX | AZ | ??? Discussion/Donations/Self Hosting [Host Altitude]

Recommended Posts

This thread is for discussion of NY 1-4, TX 1-4, AZ and future servers

I'm currently hosting/donating the 4 NY DayZ servers and 4 TX DayZ servers through my company Host Altitude. We are also donating a server in Arizona used for other parts of the DayZ infrastructure.

Being a server provider, I can get discounted prices at various locations across the US. I want to use this to an advantage for supporting DayZ. Server demand is very high and I want to provide as many servers to DayZ as possible. Obviously these servers are costly so we are happily accepting donations to get other servers up and maintain the current servers.

I have set up this page:

http://www.hostaltitude.com/dayz

So far we are running a dedicated server in Arizona (Not used for hosting ArmA 2 servers but still a major part of DayZ), a dedicated server in Texas and a dedicated server in New York. All of these servers run on the following:

E3-1230

16GB RAM

SSD/SATA (Various HDD setups)

100Mbps

Unmetered Bandwidth (10TB in NY)

Let me know what location the community is after next.

If you want us to provide yourself or your community with a dedicated server so you can also get some DayZ servers up, let me know as I am providing highly discounted rates (Near to non profit) for any dedicated servers being used for DayZ.

We are also providing VPS servers for use wih DayZ, check out our thread here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4191

How much do you need to get one open in your Arizona region? Do you have an IP I could use to check ping? Could the time zone (in game) be adjusted to suit Pacific daylight savings time?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like there was some sort of forum rollback, all the replies have gone.

I'm asking for around $100 to order the Phoenix, Arizona server and then any more donations will go towards the monthly cost. It costs more than this but we need it urgently.

Feel free to ping 199.167.132.160. As far as I'm aware, Phoenix uses MST which is the same as PDT.

I have set up this page:

http://billing.hostaltitude.com/grouppay...3-df152-8b

All donations can be viewed here and we can see how much is in the 'kitty'. As soon as it reaches $100 (Roughly 50% of the cost) I will order another beast. It will be hosted in New York again - if you think it should be hosted somewhere else such as Arizona or Texas' date=' please say so.

I am currently looking into Aus/NZ hosting but it is very expensive, I will post here when I get a good deal.

Just to let you know, that link isn't working.

Thanks for the rapid response!

When you say "server" do you mean a single 50 slot or something similar to the hardware you are running in NY (4 x 50?)

Thanks, I've fixed it.

I mean something similar to what we are running in NY, so yeah 4 x 50 slots.

Wow, that's a lot better than $90 month for a single 50 slot and 4000 GB/Month of transfer!

I am however very interested in getting some server(s) further west for obvious reasons. I'm not sure how your "kitty" fund is working out now but maybe a separate one for the AZ location might be a good thing or would you prefer to get something out west like I would?

I know I'm not the only player connecting from the west coast that wouldn't mind seeing something similar to our timezone, if nothing else.

I put some towards it, living in oceania here where you pay for bandwidth with gold. But honestly I wouldn't care if the money was spent to buy Rocket a drink or two. None of those crappy Aussie beers though.

LA based servers are good since they can often get <150ms to NZ and 100ms to Aus.

Thanks for looking in to AU/NZ hosting. Again, I can alert the troops once we know what amount is needed. The ocianic community is normally very generous when it comes to donations. Even if we can only get a server up for a few months it would be better than nothing.

I agree we oceanic people are very friendly folk, so definately look into some hosting options.

i'd be more than happy to put my money where my mouth is. and i'm sure with how many people play this mod some of us wouldn't mind contributing to the cause.

The Phoenix, Arizona server is now online. I'll hand it over to rocket to set everything up.

I've got a few quotes for servers in AUS. The best one is the following:

E3 1240

8 GB DDR3 RAM

500 GB HDD

3TB data

$400 / month (AUD)

That could handle 2 x 50 slot servers I believe. At a push although I'm not sure the BW can handle that.

I'm currently building one, but have some unanswered questions. I know you can build a server with a lower end pc. In that case what will I have to look for while trying to keep the cost down with a Budget of $500?

For a 50 slot server what are the requirements in ram and CPU?

2x50 slots might tear through the bandwidth. We'd be happy with 1x50 slot, and a ping limit...and see how much it chews up from there

With the AUS server, I'm sure that they'd be happy with 1x 60/70 player server with a ping limit rather than 2x 50 players, which, as Griff said, would chew through bandwidth.

Antipop +1

Agreed, personally i'd rather this idea. Its better to have the single server and the (hopefully) guarantee of bandwidth.

Are you still scouting more options?

Doesn't work, past 50 players almost all servers have extreme difficulty in keeping up, as they can't really utilize that much of the power in the server cpu by themselves, whilst several instances work just fine.

3 TB Data won't be nearly enough if the servers will be full constantly though.

About 140GB per day was used on my box when I had my two EU 40 player servers up, sometimes more.

Which translates into 4.2 TB per month.

However yesterday when EU3 was added into the mix, It now uses up around 217 GB per day, which translates into around 6.5 TB per month.

It does depend on what bandwidth settings you use for the server though, and I don't only have the arma2 servers on there.

How about this then:

Quad Core E3 1240

4 GB DDR3 RAM

500 GB HDD

2TB data

$325 / month (AUD)

The CPU is a bit of an overkill but most places with cheaper BW seem to be out of stock on any lower CPU's.

I assume you'll just host one server on that box then?

Not sure that would be worth 325 $ per month

Yes it would just host one. That is very cheap for Australia. I also can't get more than 3TB BW without paying a stupid amount more so it's not worth hosting more than one server on a box.

I'm going to create a seperate thread regarding an Australian server just to keep track of the discussion and all the PMs I've been getting regarding it.

In two weeks I'll be moving all the NY servers to Dallas, Texas. The move will also allow me to put a few more DayZ servers up. This also means during the next two weeks both lots will be up as the NY server has 2 weeks left.

The Dallas move also provides us with unmetered bandwidth.

I would like 1x50 player server anywhere on the east coast, atlanta would be great. Will it be ready to go with day Z on the arma server?

How do I pay?
