drop gear and leave server / getting killed...what happens?

I would like to ask what would happen, if I would drop my gear (i.e. my backpack, primary weapon) and either leave the server or getting killed. Will the stuff be available at the place I dropped it, or will it be deleted once I leave / getting killed?

(unfortunately) found the answer on my own...once the backpack or other things will be dropped, so they disappear once the charracter leaves the server, same for being killed.

Good bye Chech backpack and Winchester...at least I know now what not to do...

From my experience, backpacks last longer than items that are dropped directly on the ground and as long as someone is nearby, it wont disappear.

I died yesterday cause i fell down 2 steps of stairs (watch out for those :P ) Came back 10 mins later and my gear was in the same place :)

I dropped my backpack and my winchester and wanted to pick it up again, which was not working. I droped those things underneath a tree, may be that hasn´t enabled me to pick those things up again...
