itsnotjon 0 Posted July 12, 2012 I understand it's been said before, but really..Does this game seem kind of unplayable at this state for a newbie?I bought the game a week ago, and I haven't even found a gun yet.I'm living off of the coke and pepsi that I rarely find, and half of my findings are empty tin cans.I did happen to stumble upon a hatchet, after dying 3 times just to get to it.I had to reload it (wtf)I understand it's in alpha phase, but I don't see how its gotten so popular with all of these problems.I have to crawl across roads or else it's too loud? and I will attract zombies from miles away (how is that realistic?)I think me and my friends would have a better time if we started out with the basics, such as a pistol and some food, and then we could really get to exploring and go from there. Right now we try to sneak around but end up attracting zombies from god knows where. But that's just me..
Benlandia 73 Posted July 12, 2012 The new patch makes the zombies super-human in their ability to see and hear you. While ramping up the difficulty for experienced players, it makes newer players confused and frustrated.I would recommend reading through the forums in the new players section for tips and tricks before going balls to the wall. Also, playing at night makes it MUCH easier to avoid zombies. ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) I have found it almost universally true that the people who find it necessary to indicate that they "understand it's Alpha" are inevitably the ones who do not.As to your weapon troubles - try medium to high-value farm buildings. Look for barns or low, long cattle houses. It will take, on average, ~5 at most to find a Winchester, Lee Enfield, Crossbow, Double-Barrel or Makarov. Weapons are plentiful. Keep hunting. Don't give up. Edited July 12, 2012 by ZedsDeadBaby
BobofTibia 11 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) I thought all of this when I first started playing, and its not miles off, its actually realistic distance, if you walk in front of a living creature, and its eye catches you, its going to be able to see you. This isn't the elder scrolls where you are the shadow ninja of unseen in-front of someones face. The reloading the hatchet, you got me on that one, its just a function that has to be done as there isn't normally melee in Arma 2.And the reason you may not be finding a weapon is your looking in the wrong spots, they aren't just everywhere. They are in logical locations "Farmer barns carry shotguns and hatchets and crossbows, military areas carry military weapons, grocery storys carry food and basic supplies hospitals carry medicines and whatnot etc. Edited July 12, 2012 by BobofTibia
itsnotjon 0 Posted July 12, 2012 Thank you all for the quick feedback,I will definitely check out the new-player forums, and will DEFINITELY look in every damn barn I can find :DI'm sure all the kinks will be fixed over time, like I said, I understand it's in alpha phase. Thanks again. ken@thekab.com 37 Posted July 12, 2012 Weapons are plentiful if you look in medium and high value buildings only. It's also very quick if you sprint to those buildings. If you sneak around some small town you spawned outside of that doesn't even have anything other than low value spawns, half of which are bugged doghouses, with thirteen zombies between each spawn... good luck with that. BobofTibia 11 Posted July 12, 2012 But of course.I also recommend watching this: It'll show you the basics of what most stores have.
HanoverFist 64 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) I recommend leaving the coast and all the towns on it head inland ASAP , stay in the woods but follow the roads. You'll be less likely to run into other players ( who will happily kill you for no reason or for your beans)and more likely to find better loot. When you see an infected lay down and crawl to your destination. Don't Sprint or crouch run unless you are positive that you are in the clear. Double tap left shift to toggle slow and fast modes for prone, crouch, and standing. If you crouch walk you are way less visible than if you crouch and run .Watch the icons with and eye and an ear, and the visibility number in the debug console. The icon bars are a rough indicator and that visibility number is your best friend .If that number goes above 65/75 you are in danger of being seen even at long distances, keep it below that if you are anywhere near trouble and there are still no guarantees. When you slow crawl even across roads that number hovers around 20 and at 20 and below the infected need to be pretty close(15feet or less guesstimate) to see you.Stay in the high grasses bushes and woods as much as possible.Team up if you can but trust NO ONE ,,,,,,,,,,,,ever. BobofTibia 11 Posted July 12, 2012 Crossbows aren't really used for full on face to face combatry, they are silenced distance weapons, and mostly used for Zeds. And it seems, that's the way of the game, if your running into this too much, try a server with far less people. If your wanting to team up with someone I'm more then happy to drop in-game and help out.
