zapbrannigan 9 Posted July 12, 2012 Can someone give me some tricks to killing zeds with the axe without getting hit? Where is the sweet spot for swinging the axe... Excellent weapon, but I do need practice at it to get it right. By the time I find an axe (my luck is horrid), I don't really feel like wasting a life or two attempting to get the timing correct.Swing too early, zed closes distance and you bleed.I seem to miss that spot most of the time and end up taking blood loss on new characters until i get a firearm. Also, STAIRS... is there an effective way to use the axe on stairs? Zeds go slow on stairs... but they seem to have a longer range, while the Axe feels shorter range on stairs...
Dancingg 27 Posted July 12, 2012 You get a few meters of grace with an axe. Run into a building and let them walk inside. Practice makes perfect. There's not really any sweet spot but you don't need to headshot with it so just aim for the body. You can always move back if you miss too.
DannyCz20 0 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) Well when you're sneaking to a zed from behind it notices you before you're actually able to strike. But it doesn't like immediately hit you or run towards you but it actually turns around to face you and that takes some time and that's good time to strike. Also sometimes when it turns around it doesn't run towards you but it tries to actually circle you and attack you from behind sou you can get lucky and hit it first while it's doing that. Also the axe is buggy and simply sometimes it hits sometimes it doesn't. Edited July 12, 2012 by DannyCz20

ryan__mc__@hotmail.co.uk 131 Posted July 13, 2012 In any building ...stand diagonally to the door frame aim your axe in the direction the zeds are comming and aim it to there upper chest area and as they are comming through the door you hit them ..They will slow down and there s a brief second or 2 that they wont hit you so you hit them in this time. species5021 28 Posted July 13, 2012 The range of the axe is pretty long, longer then your gut feeling tells you it is. So when you think the zombie is still to far away then that is the time to swing it. 9 out of 10 times the zombie will go down with that. Also when you are outside and a zombie activates on you and he comes running. When he comes running straight for you wait for the moment when you feel hes about to start hitting and then swing the axe. Beautifull when you strike down a zombie in mid run. Gotta love the axe for that, ofcourse i have SAW249 now so i just spray and pray.
khajiit (DayZ) 0 Posted July 13, 2012 Dunno if people would like to verify my statement but I've found the axe is a lot less effective vs. hoppers so it might be better just to run away from them. For the other zeds, it's just a matter of getting used to the real length of the axe (I remember someone saying its range is more akin to something like a 2H sword) and try to make the zeds approach in such a way that they can't easily circle to your right. That, and have lots of room to backpeddle incase you miss your swing or they glitch out a bit.
