Massive delay/latency

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just bought Arma II and immediately downlaoded Dayz. However, whenever I play the game, the movements are heavily delayed. I know Arma is a simulator (and so it wont be as smooth as Call of Duty, Halo etc.) and this definitely isnt lag. When I aim to the left, it can take up to a full second before I actually start aiming to the left on my screen. As you can imagine, this makes the game near impossible for me to play.

My computer has great specs and should be able to handle the game without any problems (it runs heavier games than Armas without problems) However, still I suspect some kind of graphical option is on which should be turned off, because too high graphics typically lead to the problem Im experiencing....however, even when I set everything to the lowest I still run into this problem, so who can help me out?

Try turning mouse smoothing all the way down to zero in the menu. I was beginning to hate using guns until I figured that out XD

what exactly does the smoothing do?

The higher the smoothing the more of a delayed, laggy feel aiming will be - a bit like your aim is on a rubber band or is moving through thick syrup.

Turning it off completely will give your aim a sharp and accurate feel. Instead of your aim over-steering and keeping on going, your aim will stop at exactly the same time you do.

Test it in game, go into ironsights and swing your aim about. You'll notice the difference in high/low smoothing immediately!

If it fucks you up that badly, then why is it in the game? How does it benefit anyone?

No idea. It's common in FPS to be able to alter your smoothing but I personally agree. I don't find it realistic mostly because...

IRL, if you try to aim at something, you WILL oversteer (unless you are proficient with guns IRL, which I believe most of us aren't) and have to correct yourself. I think smoothing is an attempt to recreate that realism but in all honesty, it's not sharp enough to compensate for actual hand-to-eye co-ordination very well.
