UKJim 3 Posted July 12, 2012 So I jumped right in yesterday and went a few meters to find a building - I read up on here about stealth and not running etc etc so I proned all the way into the building. On the floor was some loot nothing too good maybe some medi kits and other cheap stuff (no weapons).Next thing I knew there was a zombie behind me (oh no my first encounter) - running away up some stairs took me to a dead end so I backed down the stairs and zombie following me.I ran outside and could not shake him off at all - started running up a hill and even more found me - oh no I was in trouble and I knew it. Luckily with no gear on me I wasn't too fussed about dying.Half way up the hill I spotted another (noob) fellow survivor with about 15 zombies on his back. I felt lucky :)Eventually the chase came to an end - my first attempt dead - approximately 5-10mins into the game heheOnto my second go - more stealth but this time found a farm and got a hatchet - killed a zombie but got bitten so now I am bleeding. I used my bandage.Found myself heading into some woodland - no zombies here thank god. Kept walking thinking what my next encounter would be - bandit or zombie? Stumbled across an airfield 'Balota'No zombies to my surprise - so I looted the hangars and found an M16 and some first aid. I was just walking out of the airfield and a zed in an officer uniform ran at me aggro - I shot him in a desperate flare of (oh no what have I done) - I check my back and 15+ zombies were heading into the hangar obviously attracted by the gunshot - I knew my spot would be next so I needed to get out of there.Heading up a hill into some trees I dived to the floor. Zombies did not follow - safe for now!Logging off in the safety of the wood - the story continues later. I need food and water as well as some good medic supplies. Looks like I will be venturing into the town of Cherno and hopefully not get killed by zeds or bandits. Fingers crossed! All in all my first experience was a good oneThanks for reading :)Jim
BurtRaven 20 Posted July 12, 2012 I doubt you have enough bullets in your sweet rifle for Cherno...
species5021 28 Posted July 12, 2012 Sounds like a good starting experience many people can be envious about. Lucky finding some guns at balota without getting shot by bandits in any case. If you can remember the details about farm buildings being your best start get to buildings then you should have some fun times in chernarus.
aHzdaNny 49 Posted July 12, 2012 You don't really need to venture into larger cities for food and water. Search smaller buildings like gas stations for a hunting knife and a hatchet. Once you've found that, all you need is matches (usually found in offices or similar types of buildings) and a water bottle, and you can live in the woods for as long as you want to, without ever having to even look at Cherno again.Good on you for not being too fussed about dying your first time around though. That's a lot more than I can say for most of the people I've played with.
N0DemonZ 17 Posted July 12, 2012 Sounds like you had an eventful first day ! If you do decide to venture into the bigger cities, get ready for some heart stopping moments with zeds and other survivors/bandits :D
Evito 4 Posted July 12, 2012 Welcome to Chernarus, you lasted about 3-5 minutes longer than most first timers i've seen, now i've been known to kneecap the occasional noob with 15+ zeds and leave him for lunch im just as likely to snipe the zombies off his ass. UKJim 3 Posted July 12, 2012 At then end of the day if I get shot so soon in the game it means I have less to lose - so off to Cherno tonight me thinks :)I like the bandit situation because if it were real life it would be every man for himself - I would think though the difference would be they would only shoot for rescource not for fun (at least I would hope) - In this game people kill for fun and don't loot the bodies. This would p*** me off the more I play I am sure.Still as I say I am happy with my hatchet so as long as I can make it to a farm or something grab one of these Im all good. Its all part of the game.I do have one question though - if you do not have any weapons and you got a zed on your behind - how the hell do you get away? I tried running and going round walls and stuff but it just followed me. I went into buildings and it followed me. I even tried swimming away :) So whats the trick (or am I screwed if this happens)? As I say I enjoy these kind of games - no story line just wonder and do your own thing. Its great!I bought Arma II just for this addon and I am not disappointed. I do think some people on here takes it too seriously tho but then again I do not have much to lose at the moment. Maybe later you will hear me rant?Cheers guys/galsJim
Dev (DayZ) 113 Posted July 12, 2012 No need to be sneaky unless you are stalking a player. Run around and lose zeds in a building or on the other side of a wall(run around wall+crouch run away works great most of the time)
UKJim 3 Posted July 13, 2012 No need to be sneaky unless you are stalking a player. Run around and lose zeds in a building or on the other side of a wall(run around wall+crouch run away works great most of the time)I will try this but I have had not much success at the moment - I have now been able to venture into elektro and snoop some shops and buildings including the hospital. I have a water canteen, lots of medic stuff, gun, hatchet, some beans and coke, also got some matches too. So all I need now is a hunting knife and I will make up to the mountains for a bit to hunt and survive out there for a bit. Fingers crossed I don't die before then :)
Evito 4 Posted July 15, 2012 If you keep running fullspeed after line of sighting the mob it'll still hear your running steps. Crouch running after you get a little distance and line of sight the zombie is enough.Theyre a lot easier now, barns work quite finely for example, run through it then turn when outside the other side and crouch run away. UKJim 3 Posted July 16, 2012 Cool - sounds like a plan - I have been surviving in the woods by Kabanino watering hole :) I have an alice pack and lots of cooked meat - few sticks of morphine and bandages too - the only item I am missing that I need is a hatchet. The one I found was spent and would not work :(I have 2 water canteens and map, watch, binoculars, hunting knife, and a trusty pistol too heheAll good so far
