Flares disappear in binos

What happened:

Saw some people lighting up flares at a distance so I tried to take a peek through my binoculars, and when I saw the flares, they lights went out. I could see where the flares were, but the light the flares were giving off was not showing. So a light source not producing any light.

NW Airfield. The main strip.

What you were doing:

I was lying prone, observing through darkness.

Scavenging in US1. Server went down so I reconnected to Dallas or NY1. It was dark as soon as I spawned in, and the position I was at, I could see the flares lit up. Checked out what was going on through binos. Saw the area is it should have been lit up, then the light given off by the flare went out, though when I removed binos the area was still lit. They tossed a few more flares and I tried again with same result. Disconnected from server because I was tired of darkness, and I couldn't make out how many survivors there were ;).
