Do we have any advantage over the infected?

Recommended Posts

When starting off you are pretty much $hit out of luck unless you find a gun or a weapon of some sort. A lot of the times when you find the gun it has no ammo.

What im trying to say is should the infected be able to:

  • Climb ladders
  • Swim
  • Run as fast as they can

They are almost impossible to get away from if your early in game and being chassed. Or is this just me?

I think just you. Or maybe this response is just my perspective...

If you play the game enough, and pick a low-population server, you can hit up Cherno or Elektro and get out before Zed even knew you were there. Same thing with small villages, and whatnot. It's a matter of knowing, at just a glance, what building or shed or garage can be entered, or where the loot spots in buildings that cannot be entered are.

Just the little things that turn it around for you.

they can be tough to avoid/ditch, but there's tricks to get around them (for now). it gets easier when you learn these tricks. the biggest starting advantage we have is that we have brains and they're just AI.

About the speed they run.. it pisses me off because it's so unnecessary. It appears as if they are around 5m behind you, they just run at your normal running speed. Everytime you get ahead of them a bit, they turn into fucking supermen and run like hell to catch up and they have no problem doing it.

If you can break LoS they can be quite easy to ditch. Unfortunately as the above poster pointed out the infected seem to be on par with the average Kenyan sprinter and have no problem keeping up with your character

The more you play the more adept you become at judging when you will detect a zombie, as well as how to escape them when without a weapon. In time you will adapt and overcome. The zombies are fine as they are now (more or less, that is) and you will be able to escape them with more experience and a little more use of your head to assess a situation before you get into it. (In other words, take it slow and observe your surroundings!)

This is not your average zombie game: You will get into situations where you will be fucked over (seemingly, at least) and you will either have to suck it up and keep running or respawn.

Definitely learn the ins and outs of LoSing zombies. It's important because that feature and spawning with no weapon came out in the same patch. (Before you had a makarov, but the zombies would follow you indefinitely - take your pick on what was "better", but I prefer being able to out wit them and not expend ammo.)

The primary considerations are that:

  • You will get hit if you crouch run away from a chasing zombie. You must stand and run, which will also attract more zombies.
  • Prone is not an invisible toggle, but it's worthwhile to spend the extra 5 minutes to get somewhere instead of the next 15 trying to evade zombies and the bandits that will inevitably follow the zombie train.
  • Zombies can still hear you once you break LoS and aggro due to that.

I won't just TELL you how to avoid them, but it takes time and learning how to survive is practically all the fun in the game. Besides killing people.

Since the new patch, it seems like it's easier to lose zombies. Sure, they can see you from a mile away now (literally), but whenever I have been able to break LOS of sight, even for a second, they lose interest and I can just walk away.

I hear a lot of people complaining that the Z's are broken, but I like the changes so far.

When starting out with nothing, I find it's not even worth trying to avoid zombies. I just run like a madman around the closest major city and start by checking every large building. If you have zombies chasing you the church is a good spot to go first. It often has a rifle or sidearm and if it doesn't, you can sit at the back, let all the zombies trickle towards you, then run around them and out the door. By the time they turn and get back outside, you should be long gone. Voila no more aggro. Same idea goes for large buildings with multiple exits. It's not the safest approach but I'd rather spend 5 minutes gambling and dying than crawling on my stomach naked and defenseless for 20 mins, only to get shot or hacked to death anyway. Or eaten for that matter.

Whatever method you choose, once you have meds and at least a decent gun, start planning your departure. I generally plan my run so that whatever I do, my last buildings are at the outskirts of town. From that point you just gotta bolt the hell out of there. Again I prefer to run while bobbing and weaving to avoid possible murdering asshole fire rather than crawling around. Concerning assholes, I should also mention that you don't ever check the northeastern elektro firehouse or ever exit from that part of town. The nearby hill overlooking the city almost always has at least 1 guy sitting there just to shit on your day.

Now assuming you escape the player threat, even if you have 20 zombies chasing you just don't stop and don't panic. This is where it pays to know the route for your mad dash ahead of time. There are 2 ways to lose zombies besides killing them with a weapon. 1.You can lead the trail to any steep incline, when I say steep I mean steep enough that your character has to carefully walk down rather than run. Zombies cannot do this and will instead run off the edge like Wile E. Coyote and usually drop to their deaths. Pick off the rest with your weapon or run in big circles and repeat until they're all dead. If this isn't an option then there's #2. Run into the forest and run through every bush and cluster of trees you can find. Never backtrack close enough that the zombies you lost can see you again. Slowly but surely you will lose them until there's a small enough amount that you can just shoot them with whatever you have.
