Less food, less hunger

Right now there seems to be way too much food in the game. And, your character gets hungry at a very fast rate. I can understand getting thirsty that often, but my in-game character eats better than I do.

I suggest drastically reducing the canned food spawn rates. There are a lot of places where food can spawn, so a very low spawn rate would mean rare, but not so rare that you never find any. And there is always the option to hunt animals.

Cannibalism would also add another source of food.
