b.v.nieuwburg@gmail.com 5 Posted July 11, 2012 Hi, today I've picked up a map in the supermarket in Cherno. When I opened it it had marks on it. The same marks you get when double-clicking it. The marks said 'go here'.I wanted to go there to check it out but I didn't have time. When I logged back in on a different server later on in the day, the marks were gone and the map was empty. I searched the wiki and apparently tents and helicopter crash sites are server specific. What were dose marks? Are all maps pre-marked when you pick them up? Brew78 27 Posted July 11, 2012 As I understand it, the way the game is set up, everyone is on the same "team" as far as the ARMA game engine goes.Depending on how the server parameters are set, you may or may not share map notations with other people on your team.Which is to say, on the first server you were on, someone else on the server had posted "go here", more than likely in hopes that you or someone else would walk directly into his crosshairs. FunkyHermitCrab (DayZ) 95 Posted July 11, 2012 In my experience, when you are near somebody your map will sync with theirs. When I am in a group and we are close to each other, I can place a marker on my map and it appears on everyone else's. However, if they are too far away then it wont be shared on their map. This has to do with the game automatically placing players you don't shoot immediately into your "squad".
-=seany=- 65 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) Its unusual alright. In Arma, markers appear on the map when you double click it, you can then use Up and Down arrows to change the marker type. Also, the Chat channel you are on (Direct, Group, Side etc) affects who can see it.I don't get how I can see other users markers in DayZ though as the only chat channels available now are limited to Direct and Group. Unless making a marker on Direct Chat show for everyone regardless of distance to the player? Group shouldnt work as we are all in serperate Groups. In my experience, when you are near somebody your map will sync with theirs. When I am in a group and we are close to each other, I can place a marker on my map and it appears on everyone else's. However, if they are too far away then it wont be shared on their map. This has to do with the game automatically placing players you don't shoot immediately into your "squad".I don't believe "Syncing" occurs, not unless it's somthing special to DayZ. The reason you can see someones marker they place when you are close is the same reason you can see there Chat, Direct Channel uses the same system for Voip, Text chat and marker placment. Also, shooting at players has nothing to do with, or any affect on grouping, you are in your own group permanently for the whole game except for the first few secs when you join and you see group messages. But after this you are always in your own "group" as far as the game is concerned. Edited July 11, 2012 by SeanOfTheDead
nickyvandemortel@hotmail.com 0 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) Depending on what server you are, markers will ALYWAYS be visible for the entire server. Unless the server has them disabled in general, then you won't be able to use them at all. (Same as seeing your own position on the map, or setting waypoints with Shift-click.)So honestly, if you find markers with "Go here" or "Heli crash site!" or anything of the likes, I highly recomment you to NOT go there.Either there indeed is something there, but it is already been taken by someone else earlier. Or it's purely a trap, and you will be ambushed when you get close to that place. So once again: Don't listen to these markers, and don't use them yourself because other people will find your stuff.PS: Oh and indeed, markers are server-based. Meaning if you switch servers, you will find other markers. Or none in your case. Edited July 11, 2012 by Nicknero1405
b.v.nieuwburg@gmail.com 5 Posted July 11, 2012 Aha that makes sense. So my markers with 'my tent is here' were not so smart after all. lol One other question, on the map the blue drop like shape is you. When you hover over it it sais 'survivor'. On this same map I saw every now and then brielfy an orange drop like shape and when hovering over it it said 'man'. I tried to follow but lost. Sometimes I saw a group of these markers. Are these other plauers in the vincinity? This also works for bandids in cherno/elektro?
Lukio (DayZ) 24 Posted July 11, 2012 Infected sometimes get marked as "Man" in orange writing.

doom4mr 135 Posted July 11, 2012 I find the penis art over the NW airfield to be the most informative marker of all.lol :lol:everyone who has a map can put markers on it and they stay as long as you play at the same server, you can see only the markers that been placed since you logged in.and its better not to use them... and of course not to read and follow them... ;)
Cyriiq 0 Posted July 12, 2012 I just found out moments ago that you can color the map markers by placing one and holding shift + up/down arrow keys :)

Lapua Lupo 0 Posted July 12, 2012 I'm not sure of all the intricacies of the map, but one thing that my group has verified is that if you put marks on the map while in Group Chat, when additional people log on to the server they can see those marks that you put. Some other channels may be more secure, but the best bet is not to mark anything on the map you don't wanna lose.
