Adding Smell and Wind

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I don't know if this has already been an idea someone has posted, probably, but I haven't seen it so here we go!

What would your opinions be on adding smell. Think about the zombie apocolypse, it would constantly smell like sh*t because of the zombies which are basically just rotting carcasses, and the players which have not cleaned themselves for days or depending on how long your player has been alive for.

So, getting right into it, players and zombies would both have a nose (along with the already implemented eye and ear).

The longer players stay alive for the dirtier they get, and therefore the smellier they get, and if they want to stay less smelly, must clean themselves. This action may take a few minutes so its not like people can just clean themselves whenever they want. Clean yourself would take some smell away meaning it it hard for zombies to find you with your smell. A player may also want to loot a zombie where they may get some blood on themselves and smell bad after words. The player may also get smelly from staying around zombies dead or alive for a long period of time, the process would go faster the more zombies there are.

Zombies would always smell the same stink, unless rocket added zombies that are fresh and some that are old to mix it up a bit. The wind direction would also effect how the zombies smell to you and how you smell to the zombies. If the wind is coming from the back of the zombies, they may smell their own stench more than yours for the time the wind is blowing that way and may allow you to sneak around them more easily. If the wind is blowing to the front of the zombies their stench will go behind them and will smell your stench more if you are in front of them, and less if you are behind them.

This would work in many ways the same for the player. The older the player is, the worse they would smell. If the wind was blowing into the front of the player they would smell themselves less and smell any zombies in front more. If the wind is blowing to the back of the player they would smell themselves more, depending on how old they are or how long it has been since they bathed.

This would work for other players vs. players aswell. If a player is in a town they probably won't notice your smell, but if you are running through an open field and their smell starts getting worse and worse and they know a zombie can't be around them, they may come looking to see if someone is there.

Animals might also have a level of smell depending on the animal (pigs and cows stink from a distance further than you would smell a rabbit).

Thanks for reading, and sorry if there are any smelling errors, I had to type this out on my iPad.

They're not Zombies! they're infected humans..

Not really sure on this idea. Too many micro management things would get tedious. Also, average life expectancy is still quite low.
