Sentinal (DayZ) 20 Posted July 11, 2012 Start of with a short storyI was at Balota Airfield, doing my usual rounds through the military tents before I head north. I grabbed the gear I needed, which turned out to be pretty damn good (DMR with one mag).I left the airfield and was slightly to the north when i saw someone crouch running through the trees towards the airfield. I immediately proned and scoped to him before noticing that he had no gun.My question is, now that players have no guns and start with nothing really worthwhile other than a flashlight which I already had of course, do you shoot unarmed people, are they worth the waste of one of my precious DMR rounds. matt.gilmurray@gmail.com 46 Posted July 11, 2012 Really... why the hell would you shoot an unarmed person who probably has painkillers and a bandage what a waste of ammo.
dubscheckem 13 Posted July 11, 2012 It's not necessarily a waste of ammo, even if they don't have a weapon there is still the potential for them having something else that is useful. The only times I don't shoot an unarmed survivor (or, anyone really) is when I am also unarmed or if shooting them could give away my position to a larger threat. Weapons are exceedingly common and easy to find, just because they aren't a threat right now doesn't mean they still wont be in the next 30-60 seconds when they do find a weapon, as such I neutralize all contacts regardless of if they're armed or not because that is my job as overwatch/sniper support. termhn 20 Posted July 11, 2012 Sorry dude but that isn't your role as an overwatch sniper. Your role would be to counter-snipe and eliminate high-value targets... Leave unarmed people for your boots on the ground to take care of and keep them protected from other snipers and armed enemies.
dubscheckem 13 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) A threat is a threat regardless of that particular threat's role or status. Obviously acquiring and neutralizing hostile snipers is the priority, but when there are no snipers to deal with I switch to engaging threats that are in proximity to my ground team.
