next Patch: FIX D/C BEFORE NEW FEATURES

Recommended Posts

Agreed, their body needs to remain in server and killable for at least 20 seconds after forced disconnect.

Except "You obviously missed the head, Get better kids." is a COD mentality that isn't supported by the ARMA milsim, where you're supposed to favor center of mass. You can go back to playing BF or COD if you want to be a 1337 h34dsh0t m4st3r

Its called a lee enfield.

Best. Weapon. Ever.

Agreed. Although a simple timer is not enough. It won't stop players spawning right next to you in a building. Give players a toolbelt item like a bedroll that needs to be set up and used to disconnect. It will allow control over where players log out in the same way you can control where players put tents.

This is actually a very intresting idea

fixed that for you.

alpha test = testing how new features fit into the game.

Yeah thats fine but not when there are GLARING bugs not being addressed that should be "tested" before new features.

You guys played 1.7 right? Then you'd know this has been tried before and the outcome wasn't as expected. It's obviously still an important issue, but it's not as easy to fix as you might think.

[if they are able to Disconnect, You obviously missed the head]

Get better kids.

That's not an argument. Stop being a douchebag. Disconnecting to avoid death is an illegitimate playingstyle, and players should not have to adapt to it. Note how I said "should", since you obviously have to adapt to it at the moment if you wish to kill the DC snipers (in our team we always pick them off with .50 Cals, to make sure they won't have time to log out).

It is a difficult problem to be sure, but it is VITAL that it is fixed, sooner rather than later. It truly is a crippling feature of the game that makes me hang my head and groan. Countless times I've been shot at by people, only to then turn the tables on them in a fair and square fight, only for my victory to be spoiled by a logout.

I know this is a grim suggestion, and I haven't come to this without a great deal of thought, but if a logout timer simply cannot be introduced without it being exploitable, then I say if you logout while in shock, you should just log back in dead and start over. People will then try to fight harder to keep their items, and even if they do decide to Alt f4 to spite you of your goodies, at least you have the satisfaction in knowing you actually DID kill them.

There are several related issues here: Combat logging, combat logging followed by server hopping to flank, or server hopping for loot (which often results in flanking someone who was in the building legitimately). They all ruin immersion.

The attempted fix in 1.7 only dealt with a small subset of the first issue: people logging off while you had a clear shot and were shooting. With only a 5 second timer, you would have been free to log off as soon as you found minimal cover.

But AFAIK, we haven't heard anything regarding the other issues. There's even some confusion over whether server admins can ban people who cheat in that way!

maybe your priority on things that needs fixing differs from rocket's POV things that needs fixing.

or maybe your demand on fixes is not served as easily as snipping with a finger.

how familiar are you with coding? have you ever developed a game/mod?
