Solid.nl 2 Posted May 17, 2012 Now like many people i am getting the "Waiting for server response" msg just sitting there what would seem like a enternity but evantually kicks me in the empty debug forest. Now i am from europe and having tried several servers i wondered what if i go to a US server.. So tried that and within 2 minutes i am running around like a child in a toy store.Coincidince, maybe lets try a euro server again.... hmm again "waiting for server response"... Oke lets try another random US server again... Once again i go straith into the game without any trouble..Now this to me seems all to familair in a sense i had the same problem on another game for awhile. It too had a global database which the indivudial servers had to connect to but that database was located in europe. They also had a database server located in the US for the US based servers but due to complications on the euro database they temporarely moved it to the US.... Well for those 3 days the euro servers were pretty much unplayeble since the servers could not get the info from the database fast enough. The same thing seems to be happening here i can only speculate that the database server is based in the US correct me if i am wrong though but seeing as the popularity of this mod is sky rocketing it might be a idea to have european database server somewhere in the future (best would probably be for certain parts of the world like having one in asia would not be a bad idea either). I wont pretend to know what it all cost to maintain this database but it does seem like a good thing to do at on point.Greetz Solid
GigaHobo 0 Posted May 17, 2012 Actually I think I remember something like that in league of legends....But it might have been the sheer numbers from EU were more than the US so on identical servers it appeared the US ones were always brilliant. But I too have noticed the US servers are far more stable than the EU ones. boomnet@blueyonder.co.uk 17 Posted May 17, 2012 My guess would be that as the USA sleeps the server are not getting hit with 1000 users hitting enter over and over again to get inTrying a euro server at 4am GMT would confirm this.
Jasper (DayZ) 4 Posted May 17, 2012 You're right, well spotted. I can join US servers in only a few seconds, but all the EU servers take ages. Most of the time I quit because it takes so long!
Bandit Hunter 29 Posted May 17, 2012 I have determined it is based on everyone clicking at the same time. I go in US servers at 4:00am local time, no problem.
Zombie Squirrel 5 Posted May 17, 2012 My guess would be that as the USA sleeps the server are not getting hit with 1000 users hitting enter over and over again to get inTrying a euro server at 4am GMT would confirm this.It does. It's simply too many people trying to connect in EU during EU peak hours, and then the same situation in US during US peak hours.
Solid.nl 2 Posted May 17, 2012 Well actually where i am pointing at isseeing as dayz uses one global database server that is probably located in the states means that the latency between the US based servers and the database is alot smaller and probably have more chance to get thru.So even during US peak hours it should be alot easier for europeans to join a US server then a european server.Just played for 1 and a bit hour on a US east coast server and even the lag was much smaller then on the euro servers. Where on the euro servers i see zeds warping all over the place i did not have this problem on the US servers and i could actually hit them properly this time.
