Things get lost after I leave the server

Hi there.

Well, after infinite hours of looking for a weapon, I found a Winchester, so I obviously took it. Then I logged off from the server.

What's the problem? When I joined another server later, I was at almost the same place, but without the gun. Why? Does the server save the status each X time (1 minute, for example), so if I find something and I want to leave, I have to wait a few minutes to not lose it the next time I join a server?

If you weren't 100% synced up with the server (yellow/red chain symbol shown), that can sometimes cause issues when disconnecting. If you picked up the weapon and then disconnected within a few seconds, that would explain why the item didn't appear when you re-joined.
