Minimum system requirements help

Recommended Posts

I am not really a big PC gamer and have not bought a PC game since early 2000's and although I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but I will start here.

I am really excited to play this mod, but I am afraid My computer http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02481324〈=en&cc=us&taskId=101&contentType=SupportFAQ&prodSeriesId=4269976&prodTypeId=12454 does not meet the minimum requirements.

A couple questions:

- Without upgrading anything, how crappy will this run? (I am so excited to play it, I don't want to wait)

- After upgrading my video card, I will meet minimum requirements for ArmA II: OA. How well does it play with minimum requirements? ( I am more concerned about how "smooth" the game runs rather then graphics)

- This PC is not a gaming rig or anything, but if I need to buy a new video card, I am. Is it worth getting a higher end one capable of the recommended requirements, or just get what will work for the minimum requirements?

You'll definitely need a graphics card - integrated Radeon won't cut it. Not sure how far you'll need to go with a new one, or how much to spend. What graphics card may also be dictated by how big your power supply is - most modern graphics cards require extra power from the power supply. How much they require, and how much yours puts out will be worth investigating.

4GB RAM should be OK, 8GB would be better, but 4GB should manage.

As for the CPU, if it's the stock Athlon II X4 listed here, it should magae, but I'm not sure how well - the Athlon II is a pretty generic processor, although it is a quad core. Something like a Phenom or better would handle it much better, but you wouldn't be upgrading a CPU either way.

Thanks for the input, I didn't really think about the PCU either. I think I will start with a new graphics card (with power supply if necessary) and hope for the best.

Sounds good. You wouldn't bother with the CPU unless it was a recent model motherboard/computer anyway. Just make sure you don't go crazy on a graphics card $400-$500 plus for a system of that age is excessive. Don't go spending $100 on a card and expect it to be amazing either.

(prices are in AU by the way, which is very similar to US at the moment, if that helps)

Thanks. I am planning to spend as little amount of money I can to get the game to work as best it can with what I have. I know I don't have a "gaming" computer but I am definitely gong to be playing this game.

Only got into it yesterday, and it's fantastic! It's only in Alpha, and I'm keen to see where they go with it. Definitely worth getting.
