The lag is really, really bad. Is it fixable?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that even playing on servers where I have 30-40ms ping, it's taking upwards of 2 or 3 seconds for hits to register properly against players. This isn't just a small handful, either, it's almost every server I play on. I was surprised I didn't see more about it on the forum and was starting to wonder if it was just me, but my friends have the same issue and I see it crop up all the time in YouTube videos; especially ones which show sniping, where it's not uncommon to see the shooter blast somebody and said survivor running around frantically for a few seconds before the bullet finally registers and he drops over dead.

I realize this is alpha and the game will be buggy, but I'm wondering if this a problem that cropped up with DayZ or one which is inherent to ARMA 2. Can it be fixed within the confines of what Rocket is allowed to do with the engine? Because as is now it's pretty damn bad, getting into a firefight with somebody from less than a couple hundred meters is a crapshoot because even if you nail him in the back a few times, he might manage to spin around and blast you before his lag shield fails and he dies.

Try other servers, it may be that you have been playing on ones that haven't been restarted often enough.
