Objective suggestion: Radio Evac Scavenger Hunt

Recommended Posts

I love this game. Love, love, love it. Yet, apart form the scavenging, the stalking, and the endless hordes of zombies, I fell that something, some little feature is missing that would slightly enhance the addictiveness, the challenge that is DayZ: Objectives.

Yes, I know that the game is primarily survival, but lets be honest. After 3 hours of gameplay and amassing an arsenal of all the toys and weapons any aspiring zombie hunter would dream of, the game feels unguided, even boring at times, with nothing to do but camp and pick off other unsuspecting players.

That being said, I think its time to fulfill your ultimate mission: to truly survive. To finally leave the terrible, disease ridden land that is post- apocalyptic Chernarus and reach safety and comfort, knowing you survived "hell" itself.

So Hear me out on this one.

My idea for an objective would be to create 5-6 pieces for a short-wave radio (batteries, antenna, speaker, etc..) and have them scattered across the map in different varied locations. The objective would be for the survivors to go out and collect all the pieces for the radio, each super difficult to find, and own them all in one place. Once a player(s) has all of the pieces they then would construct the radio, call in a military helicopter (preferably a Chinook) and be evacuated to the aircraft carrier offshore (Im not sure if the carrier is a natural feature in Chernarus). Mission accomplished. You "survived".

I know its a rough idea, but its an idea nonetheless. The fact is, I have no clue if this idea is even feasible. Other than that, I would love to see some sort of objective that encourages teamwork rather than the survivalist/lone wolf tactic most players seem to use. Not that there's anything wrong with that either. :D

End game shouldn't be Fallout 3-esque, it should be Oblivion-esque... I want the ability to use my amassed vehicle and gun collection. Be it to help survivors, kill bandits or kill survivors, help bandits... or just kill everyone and everything. I think what's really missing is the difficulty to amass such a collection...

I don't think there should be a way to "win" Day Z. I like the radio idea, but I feel like it should be used for something other than "Congratulations, You Win!"

Perhaps to actually communicate with other players, to request supplies air dropped to you (it seems to me that everyone else wants to STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM CHERNARUS, but maybe an air drop would be okay), or discuss with the government-in-exile the locations of their military stockpiles, etc etc.

I'm highly opposed to a "ding ding ding, you're safe!" ending. This is, after all, a sandbox game. There's no ending, and I think it should stay like that. Instead of working to escape, our high-levelled (for lack of a better word) players should work on expanding their influence and creating institutions, be they military, social and civilized, or ganglike.

To quote Cleveland Brown, "You never win, but you do a little better each time."
