Recommended Posts

I found an AS50 off some dead dude, i know its an amazing sniper but its extremely loud. Are there any better ones for pvp?

AS50 is hands down. Highest range, little recoil, uses M107's ammo, looks badass.

And it's actually a pretty quiet gun. It just sounds loud to you but it's very generous with the zombies and the sound falloff is sharp at range. They just hear a little tap after the bullet crack hits them.

AS50 will still alert zombies at 300m just like the m107.

So it might sound quieter, but to zeds, it doesn't seem any diff.

I prefer m107 for the extra zoom. Only takes 1 shot to kill, so recoil isn't a big issue.

SVD Camo.

I had one and I prefer it anyday over the AS50 or the M107, both of which I happen to have now.

I lost it btw. PK'd once upon a time.

Not true. I've gotten away with using the AS50 with zombies under 100 meters from my location. Sometimes it alerts them and sometimes it just incites them to passively wander directly towards you unaggroed, same as they would to a light source at night.

I'm pretty sure sound carries differently depending on terrain in Arma2, and to that end it matters to not just have an open field for them to hear you over. Breaking it with a hill in the way helps a lot.

As for zoom, I find that negligible since the AS50 has enough zoom to hit a survivor comfortably at the absolute maximum you can ever see anything in DayZ (klick). Plus it grants me the extra speed I need to kill parties of three in quick enough succession that they can't run or delog :D

And the SVD is the gun for the sniper on the move who needs a PSO-1 scope for hardcore mode rangefinding. For extreme range, nest based sniping (which I prefer) it's somewhat capped by a pretty underpowered 1 setting zoom compared to it's distance capability. Never was a fan of using arrows over dots for zeroing either.

SVD camo or m24 imo.

The .50s are nice except for ammo and the stealth factor. They are loud and if you are trying to just move to another sniper spot they stick out like a sore thumb if the enemy is looking for you.

The svd has the same ammo issue, but the scope allows for faster shots than the mildots calculation. It also makes you invisible in the grass with a ghille.

m24 is quieter than the .50s and the ammo (a single dmg mag gives you 4 m24 mags) is quite common, allowing much more liberal use. Remember that it does come down to preference.
