A couples 25 minutes of madness.

Mid-afternoon.

My girlfriend and I were jogging on the coast toward Berenizo. Our goal - a vehicle and/or vehicle parts.

We reached the lumber mill unchallenged. Alas, I took two steps forward and a trio of zombies spawned and began ambling slowly in our direction. By this time we had walked further into the industrial area and walls were all around us. We exchanged a few brief looks and nods. They had to be shot. We raised our Winchester rifles and took aim. Sweat dropped from my brow and I let off two shots in quick succession and heard a third to my right. All three zeds keeled over and fell to the ground.

All hell broke loose.

Zeds spawned and came running from all directions. We began sprinting.

'How many!' she shouted back to me.

'12 so far!' I shouted back, looking behind me. 'We could make for that platform, they'll have to slowly walk up the stairs and we can easily shoot downwards!'

'Okay!' she yelled back.

We raced up the stairs of the platform I had indicated and took up positions. The horde had swollen to some 20 odd. We counted our kills and readied ourselves for a fight.

They began ambling up the stairs. We opened fire. Zeds began to drop like flies. But it seemed for every one of them killed, two more took its place. The sheer volume of them began to overwhelm us. They began to breach into our level and attack full force. We fired and fired again. Zeds kept falling.

Suddenly I heard a scream.

Somehow, a zombie had passed by me and begun to attack my girlfriend. I looked on in horror as her legs snapped in front of me and she began losing blood. I shot the fiend that did this to her and resumed my firing on the stairwell.

'I'll fix you up soon babe!' I yelled, 'just let me clear some more of these away first!'

To her credit, she resumed firing. Half dead and lying in a pool of her own blood. Still, she slayed the undead marching up.

Finally, the horde slowed. I quickly administered a bandage and morphine.

'Go!' I shouted. 'Further up the platform!'

She nodded grimly, in shock. I began to turn back when suddenly, I felt a searing pain. My legs collapsed beneath me and I too began losing blood. Three zombies had set upon me and continued their assault. I felled one through my fading vision and watched the other two fall off the catwalk.

I felt hands around my chest and a stab in my side. My bleeding slowed. My vision stopped deteriorating. My girlfriend, wounded as she was had saved my life. I crawled behind her and heard her gun fire over and over again.

I could see she was faltering. We were weak. The horde was not yet ready to give up. I crawled to the other end of the catwalk and propped myself up against the railing and resumed shooting.

Suddenly it clicked. We had raided Cherno hospital previously. I began rummaging through my bag.

'Please let it be here' I whispered. 'Please.'

To my delight, I found what I was looking for. And not just one, but two blood bags.

The horde slowed once more.

'Babe!' I yelled. 'Retreat back to here, I can give you a transfusion!'

She began back pedalling, still firing at our adversaries. I hooked the bag up to the railing and connected her to it. I watched as the life flooded back into her. A new energy surged. She threw the empty pack away and did the same for me. As the contents of the second bag entered my system I felt a renewed power.

'Fuck it!' I shouted. 'We need to get away! Blast the fuckers and charge through them!'

She looked at me. 'I love you.' she said. And charged downwards. We raced down to the ground, slaying anything in our way.

The undead were thin now, but still a threat. We escaped through a hole in the fence and made for the beach. As I was bringing up the rear I turned to see that we had four pursuers. I stopped, dropped to one knee and fired. Six shots arced out toward them. The first went low. The second and third entered the chests of the first two zombies, killing them instantly. The fourth hit the third zombie in his neck, spinning his body around like a top before hitting the ground. The fifth went over his dead head and the sixth and final shot entered the last zombies mouth and blew his head apart. I gathered my thoughts, turned and left that god forsaken industrial area behind.

As we jogged, she looked at me with a grin.

'We counted before we went in' she said. 'I got 31. Beat you again?'

'No' I chuckled. 'I got 37. I win'

'Fuck!' she exclaimed. 'I was so close!'

We ran onward to the forest, licking our wounds. We had failed to achieve our goal. But once again, we had survived the undead and still had each other. For now, that was enough.

- I suppose if this gets some alright comments I can try my hand at a few more journal entry type things. Let me know, aha :)

- Zombie kill count is accurate. On this day, 68 of the undead were slain in Berenizo Industrial Area. Was hectic!
