it shouldn't take 50 tries to meet up with friends

Recommended Posts

It's not a question of authenticity or realism. It's a matter of attempting to remove a large part of the challenge that the game presents. A friend is the single most valuable piece of "loot" in the game. More powerful than any gun, more important to your survival than any can of beans and more critical to long term success in the game than any piece of gear.

Accepting this, you have to realize that asking to be automatically spawned next to your friend is the design equivalent of asking to be spawned next to a pile of high-value military loot. You're basically saying "Let me skip the challenge and get right to the reward."

Well, frankly, no.

The challenge and frustrations of getting together is a critical part of the game and when you finally succeed you will value that companionship all the more because you had to work for it and didn't just have it dropped in your lap when you clicked "Join Game."

why should you be allowed to spawn with your mates' date=' so instantly you have the edge over a single player by there being two of you?

nah this should never happen ever... if you want to meet up pick a spot on the map and meet up..

and on a side note respawning more than once on the trot should give you a 15 minute ban.

This is the only reasonable concern I have seen in this entire thread. Yeah you are right, it would give the cooperating players an edge as early as spawn but there is no sense of "balancing" to indicate that this isn't a legitimate advantage for the cooperating players to have. Larger groups will tend to have an advantage over smaller ones or individual players, and there doesn't need to be a reason to limit this to a certain amount of time after spawn. Just as there is no "balance-oriented" reason to prevent geared up players from running along the coast to hunt fresh spawns, there is no reason to prevent two people from spawning together if they want to.

It's supposed to be difficult, everything is supposed to be difficult. It's one of the main points of the mod.

I don't think the advantage is as exaggerated as you make it out to be. However to address your concern of removing a challenge from the game. Why not let the players who wish to spawn together do so, and if you happen to be in the other camp just don't select that option and meet up with your friends the old fashioned way?

We're already letting tons of meta-gaming slide and allowing servers to run different settings (3rd person, chat, etc) but letting a few friends start out playing together is too much?

fact is, if they are just spawning or have no good gear, everybody just suicides repeatedly until they spawn near friends... it is always quicker than running across the island. everyone does it, and it is retarded. so there may as well be a feature that lets you spawn in the coastal vicinity of friends; at least the general area

"Everyone exploits so we should change the game design to support their behavior."

Or, you know, we could just fix the exploit and disallow spam re-spawning so people have to play the game as it was intended.

Okay, then. Humor me.

Name something in the game more important to survival than a trusted friend.
