How do you play?

Recommended Posts

So this is not a complant just an observation of what i have seen with my friends and how they play compared to the "old Dayz"

So firstly im 15, most of the people i play with are roughly that age and i've noticed they seem to play like, well children. They joined Dayz after it reached such a high level of popularity and i think this shows.

First of all they see someone with pretty gear, they just shoot, they shoot unarmed people as well, why? because there stupid kids, they see a bright shiney thing. They want bright shiney thing and instead of having the paitence to try and trade or negotiate (or even RP a steal) they just shoot and take.

Secondly, they dont value anything, i worked hard for vehicles and then they join me, they always have a go at me to "just use the vehicles its no fun if we dont use them! its a waste of time just having them sit there!" My friends dont seem to understand that they are precious and a luxery to have, you dont drive it to the NW airfield just because it saves time! and that they also need maintenance.

I also have friends though that have played with my since early Dayz (and are a little older) that have resorted to shoot on sight, because of the people i mentioned before, they didnt partically want to but they have "addapted" to survive.

Now i was wondering, have you adapted? i havent. I still dont shoot on sight, and i die. A lot. but as i say to my friends "i die with a good heart" (and they laugh at me.) now i know most people would consider my playing style stupid as i usually end up losing nice gear but thats how i play, im not complaining about it since i know every game changes and mutates through the course of its life and Dayz will probably change even more as it moves on, but i still play the "old way" i try and help first, shoot second.

How do you play? Have you given up on your morales and now shoot first ask later? Do you see shiney things and just take? Or where you always that cold hearted killer that i use to know and love in Dayz before it got a little to cold.

A few side notes:

I know not every young person shoots on sight that is just an example and what i think is the main cause of this new engagement rule

I know my spelling is bad, its not a good skill of mine, However i did try to please dont hate me for it.

Thirdly im not complaining about how Dayz is changing. =)

Oh and last but not least, this is my first major thread that is over 30 words so if it doesnt make much organised sense, im sorry as well :P

I have only been playing for about a week so my mind may change over time but at the moment this is what I think and how I play.

I normally try to play in a way that would semi reflect how I would act in the situation if it were 'real'. I can't do it all the time because its a game and as a game there are situations where you must treat it as such.

I usually walk places, I avoid high population areas and the coast as much as possible, I prefer stealth over brute force etc.

As far as how I treat other survivors I see in the game, except for the 2 other people I play with currently, I usually go out of my way to avoid others as I simply do not have the luxury of being able to trust anyone. They could just as easily murder me for my stuff because they need it or kill me just because they are evil (its a game so I realize they are not actually evil), as beg for my help when I do not have enough supplies to share, or try to team up with me.

At the same time I do not like the purely shoot first ask questions later approach either. I do not like the idea of robbing someone of their life just because I am 'afraid' at some later point they may try to end mine. So this is the code of conduct I have decided upon when dealing with other people.

1. Avoid contact if possible. If I see you, you do not see me, and your not going to the same place I am, I will simply avoid you and let you go on your marry way. This happened yesterday when I went to fill up my groups supply of canteens.

2. If contact is inevitable because we are going to the same place but you have not seen me yet, I will try to get close enough to make contact without letting you see me or try to get behind you and take you alive. E.I. "Move and your dead. Friendly. Now put down the gun."

Note: #2 is a work in progress as I have not actually had a situation where I have been able to apply it.

3. If I see you and you see me and were close enough for small arms fire (meaning were not on opposite ends of a field or something) and your not holding a flashlight or a hatchet this is the one and only time I will just blow your head off without even thinking about it. You have a gun, I have a gun, the person who hesitates is 9 times out of 10 the person dead.

4. If we both see each other at the same time and we are at opposite ends of a field or a similar condition, Ill just run off.

This is how I try to play the game. I have noticed a certain tendency I seem to have though. If a person is getting swarmed by zombies and I have the means, I usually try to pick off the zombies.

I do not shoot on sight.

I have been killed a few times for it but that's just the way things are.

Even went to the aid of a fellow unarmed survivor yesterday who was being chased by 3 zombies.

Their have been times when I have been tempted to join the dark side but that just seems too easy a way to play the game.

My first kill I felt bad and thought that I shouldn't of done that.

16, shoot on sight. Don't care, they will kill me if I don't shoot first. Unarmed? Don't care, could come back and kill me.

Blood-lust feeds my frenzy. Love to kill.

Value vehicles to a certain extent, they are pretty easy to find again. Found a ATV tonight and my friend blew it up thinking he could get some air. Was annoyed, but not mad. Lost a ghillie suit, cz, and some other stuff. We already both have ghillies and an extra camo.

At one point I was a friendly guy, then I got killed by people I thought were friendly.

After it blew up we went to NW, found nothing in one barracks yet the other contained 2 m16 acogs and a m4a1 holo grenade launcher. Also had a helicopter with a FAL nv.

So tonight we blew up someones ATV and found some nice loot.

Overall, good night.

Sorry to tell my life story.

Far too many people shoot on sight these days, its rare to find a survivor that isn't hell bent on violently murdering you and stealing your beans.

Its adds so much more to the game experience if you have contact with people and don't shoot on sight!

Be nice people!

How I play:

- Any survivor that is not with me on Skype/TS3 (my group/team) is deemed a potential threat

- Any survivor that is within directional range and does not respond to directional is shot at

- Any survivor walking unannounced towards my position, pointing a gun or shooting in my direction is shot at
