avalontreman 89 Posted July 8, 2012 I've been playing a while and I've got two assault rifles, one in my hands, one in my bag. Both with 3 mags. My question is, if I ever wanted to switch weapons, how would I do so without my mags/weapons disappearing in a black hole?
PintOfBass 0 Posted July 8, 2012 Go from backpack to active inventory. Never the other way around. Has not failed me yet.
Freekill0 15 Posted July 8, 2012 Items tend to disappear into a void when you try to move them to a full backpack, or at least a pack with not enough room. The item will still be in the inventory but once you make room for it in the pack it will disappear. Had it happen to my a Winchester and a blood pack once :[
clever 12 Posted July 8, 2012 Just transfer the weapon from your backpack to your primary slot, and it'll automatically move all ammo in the bag for it into your inventory.
avalontreman 89 Posted July 8, 2012 Awesome, thanks guys :D
Maderas 12 Posted July 8, 2012 It can still fail, it's happened to me. The only surefire safe way to do it is by dropping your primary on the ground, equipping the other weapon, dropping it on the ground, picking up the primary, putting it in your bag, and then picking up the other weapon you want to use. Yes, it's a massive pain in the ass to do so, and is the main reason I only carry around one primary weapon at a time.
Disgraced 1123 Posted July 8, 2012 I don't know. Even reading what is said here, I think it has problems. I was swapping primaries from main slot to the ground, and I had a main disappear. I just now have o e in my backpack (can't find magazines). How does the above advice work?Drop APull B from backpack...Switch B with A on the groundPut A into packPick up BIs that how it works?I haven't done this before, but I'm resigned to losing one of these primaries at some point before I can get my tent set up. I usually put them both on the ground just to be safe, but I haven't had a weapon delete itself through the switching method unless I didn't have room for its ammo. That said, do not do it if you aren't standing on flat ground, as I've had weapons clip through the terrain and become unlootable before. Really, the entire inventory is a bit of a mess right now; it's not intuitive at all.
clever 12 Posted July 8, 2012 I've never had problems with weapons vanishing while going to and from my backpack, the only time it'll disappear is if you put a weapon in a backpack when there's no room. Always make sure you have more than ten slots in your backpack before putting a weapon in there, coyote patrol packs will not hold a weapon despite being ten slots. avalontreman 89 Posted July 8, 2012 My only thing with dropping it on the ground is, if I don't do it in a loot pile, like I find a nice piece of concrete, can I still place it on the ground in front of me and it'll appear there, as if a loot spawn could be there? That's one thing I'm kinda sketchy of.
yimmy 0 Posted July 8, 2012 short answer. there is no way to safely do this...use the backpack at your own risk!:PIve lost several, sometimes fantastic, weapons this way. Now I only carry 1 main, leaves room for other stuff..
Disgraced 1123 Posted July 8, 2012 As I said,I lost one swapping in one of the barracks rooms at the airfield in preparation for some backpack swapping. .... I don't know if things can clip through the floor there....
Wulfear 6 Posted July 8, 2012 I've never had a prob switching from pack to inventory. Dropping stuff on the ground is not acceptable though. I did that once, and the server went down in the middle of it. You can guess how that turned out....
John (DayZ) 62 Posted July 8, 2012 What other folks have said, basically.Make sure you:a) have room for your current primary and its mags in your backpack (10 slots for the primary, then however many mags)b) have room for the other primary and its mag in your active inventoryThen just open up your backpack and move the second primary into your active inventory. It's still risky business, with no guarantee not to flip out and ditch one of your guns into the void, but it's the only way to do it.
*=LP=*Cpt.Kawa 57 Posted July 8, 2012 Make sure you have 1 slot free in your backpack and 1 slot free in your inventory, double-klick on the weapon in your backpack and voila you switched your weapon. Never failed on me. If you feel like you have to put 1 weapon on the ground (which I wouldn't really recommend, as long as it is not a flat ground) put a steak or bandage 1st and put the weapon on top of it. This should work as well. Other than that the chances are pretty high, that you gonna lose your weapon.
