So I found my first map, compass and watch..

But the map doesn't show me where I am, (Making it completely useless for a new player because I don't know where *anything* is) OR guide me to waypoints that I set.

is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Typically normal.

Just look around and notice any landmarks that you can reference with your map.

Land marks can be almost anything, roads (types), elevation (hill/mountains), forests, towns etc.

Also, every time you log on, the bottom right hand corner will state the nearest city/settlement for a brief moment.

If the mentioned tips above are still too difficult, I suggest you find a server running Recruit Difficulty.

The map will only show your point on certain servers (I was just told this in my first post)

I tend to find a town name and look for it on a map, from there i can figure out where i am in regards to the map using buildings and the like.

Thank you both. Seems I found a server that allows me to see waypoints and my location. I tried to locate myself via town names ETC but because I have to play with the lowest graphics settings you'd be surpised how unreadable they are haha!
