River crossings

Recommended Posts

Well, this is a bit of knee-jerk suggestion to the server resetting my location to Otmel Island (I was many miles north of this when I had logged out). I was forced to swim for the mainland and lost 90% of my kit - weapon, pack etc.

Personally I believe that losing kit when swimming isn't terribly realistic. The military have ways of crossing rivers that work even when carrying large amounts of weight (basically just using the drybag liner in your pack to keep it afloat).

It's probably not high on the priority list but what do people think about losing equipment when swimming?

It's not a bug but a calculated consideration. It's rather difficult to stay afloat with gear that weighs as much as a child and no aid from flotation gear. I think the suggestion should be something like....can you prevent me from being spawned off the mainland?

Umm, not to be contrary but it isn't hard as long as the water isn't moving quickly. The pack itself floats if you have a drybag liner side. You can also wrap the pack in a poncho to provide an extra layer of waterproofing if you need.

(Source: I've done a 30m water crossing during my time in the military.)

But yeah, spawning on islands off the mainland is a pain in the ass! :D

The current modus operandi with military packs is to put all your spare clothing and stuff in ziplock bags. 1: Your clothing and stuff stays dry for when you want to use it. 2: All those trapped air pockets make for great buoyancy. And if you have to make a deep water crossing you can just take your pack off and use it like a big fat paddleboard.
